Question Verizon BB Curve on Alltel network..

Please Login to Remove!

I currently have a Verizon BB Curve 8330 working on Alltel network. I can make/receive calls and make/receive SMS. I however cannot get onto Internet or Emails, etc (data). I have been reading around and have seen a lot of mixed answers. I KNOW this has to be possible. I have seen others that have done this successfully and got every feature to work. I would really appreciate any info or links to a How-To to get this BB working all the way on the Alltel network.

It would seem like all I would have to do is find the Alltels latest OS update and install it onto this Verizon 8330, but I cannot find any information on this. Please let me know and stay positive. If there is a will, there is certainly a way!

(I know this is my first post on this forum, as this is my first "personal" BB. I have however been working on BB for my clients for a while now. Setting up email and whatnot. I am definitely not a noob when it comes to computers, programming, cracking, etc. Just need some more incite on this situation.)

Thanks in advance,

You must have a BB data plan to send and receive email on a BB and to use the BB browser. Do you have that? An OS upgrade will have no effect on your ability to access BB services with out a valid data plan.

Also, since Alltel was recently taken over by Verizon, that could also be an issue. And there was a RIM outage yesterday and the lingering affects of that could also be part of the problem. Both of these are only valid if you have a BB data plan and the device is properly set up and activated.

I currently DO have a data plan through alltel. I dont know if there is a a diff BB Data plan to be added on top of my current data plan, but I do have it. The rep at the Alltel store didnt mention anything about a specific data plan for the blackberry though. So I am unsure. I know I am locked into whatever data plan I do have. I had a Samsung Delve R800 before with the data plan. Like I said, not sure if there is a difference between plans. I have read from other users here, that they have gotten a Verizon BB Curve to work fully with the Alltel network. Just wondering if anyone else on here has had to do any special steps to get this working...

The Blackberry requires a specific BlackBerry Data Plan. It's different.

Well damn, wonder why the lady at Alltel didn't even mention that. I swear, the people up there @ my store are retarded and slow as hell. It took 30mins waiting to finally see a rep.

So I will have to pay for my current data plan AND a BB Data plan?? That seems like it would be expensive.. Already cost about $25-30 extra/month for current data plan..

You only need one data plan - the BB data plan. That should replace the generic one you have.

If I were you, I'd call your carrier and have them make the change, add your BB to your account, activate it and send the service books.

Next, check out our FAQ on how to add email accounts.
