Default Poll: Who wants a camera?

I do, at least as an option. Preferably also with video capability.

No. I don't want one and we don't allow them at our facilities.

one of the many reasons RIM wont make one an option. RIM has been and will remain to be known for the business edge of their device. They aren't worried about appealing to 18 year old kids who want to be able to take pictures...Not saying older people wouldn't enjoy that on their device, but its not needed and i dont see it happening.

You got to be kidding. How many devices out there are capable of this, go have a field day. Why ruin a good thing. This is a business tool, leave it that way. I bet if they could youd also want a microwave option, so you could take a call, send text messages (rather than e-mails) with pictures while you heat up lunch too.

Not very popular so far I see. Actually a camera can be very useful for business purposes. For example, real estate agents may want to take pictures of houses or other buildings and send them to clients or others. I would never give up my wonderful 8700 just for the sake of a camera, and I would not consider a Treo, but it would be nice as an option. Business people have personal lives too.

Your nick describes it all. You are a gadget collector, not necesarily an user, just collector, I want it cause its there. Have you heard of digital cameras, they are very small, and take great pictures, unfortunately they make lousy phone calls, and worse yet their e-mails are unreadable. THe same holds true for phones with cameras, though they do make great phone calls, and some even send good e-mails they take lousy pictures. If you want to do the person you are doing the service for proud, use the proper tools. A blackberry with a camera, will never happen. Maybe RIM might some day make such phones but I will bet that they would never carry the na,e BlackBerry on them. In the mean time get yourself one of these:

A tube of super glue, and attach it to the back of the 8700 (make sure you attach using each other's backs otherwise it wont work well), and go take all the real estate pictures you want, use your bluetooth to download to the 8700 and mail away.

The Treo 700w is primarily aimed at businesses, as I understand it. It has a camera. Surely, the availability of a camera is not inconsistent with business uses. Sprint made a camera for its Treo 600 available to its business customers as an option.

Sure I can carry around a separate digital camera. But I would like to send the pictures as e-mail attachments.

Anyway as I said above, I would not give up my precious 8700 just to get a camera. The cameraless 8700 beats the Treos 650 and 700 hands down as far as I am concerned.

Half of the places I go to would make me leave my phone outside if it had a camera.

I would, but it's not a deal breaker that the 8700 lacks this feature. If RIM ever offers a camera option, you bet I'll opt for it.

I have been many places where they will collect the camera phones before entering the place and they will allow ones without. Since the use of BBs is mostly for business purposes and many businesses are thinking of not allowing camera phones in the work place (due to privacy reasons and unwanted picture taking) I think BB will stay out of it for now but one never knows if they decide they want to also appeal to teh regular user to gain more subscribtions and market share to compete with the others who are trying to step into their business type. I gave up using my Moto A780 and V3 razr due my customers not allowing the phone into the work place and thus not being able to be in contact with the office for support.

The treo 700 is not aimed at Business, Lets just make that a fact right there.

It was made for the sole purpose that microsoft wants to own the best selling PDA (non blackberry)

IF it was aimed at business, It would not have "Voice Activated Picture Dialing"

RIM is looking to support bluetooth enabled cameras in the future rather than have it on the device.

That means you will be able to use a proper camera with some real image quaility instead of the substandard cameras shoehorned on to current devices.

When the lens is tiny, it doesn't matter how many pixels you have, the image quality if going to be bad.

Count me as one person who definelty does not want a camera on the BlackBerry.

Bunker.

NO CAMERA! I'm a lawyer, and many courtrooms don't allow cameras. Which is why I love my BB8700c.

I wouldn't mind a camera, however my profession prohibits them due to trade secrets and what not.

most camera phones take poor quality pictures at best. I'll use my sony digital camera to take High quality photos when i want to take photos . One issue I think is do you want something that claims to do everything but it does it poorly. Or something that does what it says very well. I vote no on the camera...would rather have BB try to be better media capable say video's?

If I want to take a photo, I'll use my camera!!! My BlackBerry is a tool, not a toy and I want it to stay that way. I agree estate agents could use it, but that's a big change to make to devices for the sake of the one or two minor industries that would use them. RIM would definately run the risk of hacking off more clients than they would take on as a result of integrated cameras.

Well said! I have my bb8700 and I have my Nikon 4500. Don't need no camera phone!

That would be a cool option. Then I could take a picture through all the dust that will probably be in the lens. JK.

Thanks,
