Default Battery life and GPS

Please Login to Remove!

My battery goes for about 4 days without charging before i installed Google maps. I am a moderate user of data and voice. Since I installed Google maps, the battery is goign down fast (even though I dont use the GPS) Is the program running in the background? If so How do I disable it untill i want to use it. Also, using Bluetooth head set drains the battery?

Hold down your atl+backspace and see what apps you have running in the background. Close those that can be closed.

Thanks buddy, but it does not work for 8800. I tried holding down alt+backspace and the screen never changed. Any other suggestion?

If you just go to quit in google maps that stops the program running in background. I you switch to another application (alt-backarrow) it will remain running.

If find GPS is a big drain on the battery. With my bluetooth headset connected I don't notice a difference.

That's good to know about closing the apps. Took me a second to realize that you meant alt+escape to switch to the diff apps and close them. BB messenger does not want to close. Thanks for that heads up though.

Well, with some apps it makes sense to run them in background ;)

8800. I turned on google maps this afternoon, and did "0" to have it find my current location. Pretty neat.

This evening I laid the bb on the couch and it went into screensaver mode, then a minute later the screen lit up. I assumed that maybe I hit it somehown

then it went to screensaver, then lit up, and that pattern continued.

Then I went into google maps and close out of the application.

I put the bb on the couch and it stayed in screen saver mode.

So, the question is: If you ask maps to find your current location, and then leave the map application without closing the app, is the app running in the background and sucking up battery power and turning the screen on?
