Further researching in an effort to understand the matter completely, I came across the following link relating PIN releases....

Release BlackBerry PIN in 5 minutes » BerryManual.com

If I am understanding this correctly: this procedure is done if one wants to "release" a.k.a. "delete" a PIN from a BB device entirely. This does not need to be done if one simply wants to use voice/BB data service on an unlocked BB with a different provider on a different network?

No, you are misunderstanding the point of that link, and I honestly think you don't know what you want to do. Please tell us EXACTLY what you are trying to do in the most concise form possible, and we can help you.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my previous posts, I will try to re-iterage once again:

I have a BB Bold 9000 and a BB Pear 8100. Both phones are currently locked to Rogers. When I move to the Grenada, (an island in the Caribbean), I want to be able to use both of these BB phones with voice and data BB features (BB message, email, internet).

To do this, from what I understand, I need to do the following steps:

- have both phones unlocked
- transfer my Rogers plans to someone else (not necessary for BB to work in Caribbean, but will eliminate my buy-out with Rogers)
- sign up for a voice and data plan in Grenada, Carrib (with a provider that offers BB service)
- register my phones' IMEI and PIN accounts with that new carrier

Am I missing something??

The links I posted above are for a different process, which is to "release" PINs. Let's say I wanted to sell my BB Bold but the person that was buying it didn't what my existing PIN that is attached to the phone, or wanted their own PIN assigned to the phone. They could thus follow that procedure to "release" my PIN from the BB Bold and then have their PIN registered, correct??

That is all correct. My confusion is that you were discussing two different processes. SIM unlocking and PIN releasing are separate processes.

Yes this is true - I was confused on the difference between the two processes. Horizon Wireless was very helpful in their responses and took the time to explain everything in detail (as did others on this forum). Thanks again.

What is the latest version of OS for Blackberry Bold 9000? How can I check what OS is currently installed on my phone?

Options-->About and it should show there

The latest OS will be at the top of your specific devices forum, ie the 9000 forum.

I think you're clear on this point now but for others reading this thread:

Unlocking a BB is just like unlocking any other GSM device. All unlocking does is allow you to use another carrier's SIM in your device. That's it.

Whether or not you get data from another carrier has nothing to do with unlocking (aside from the fact that you need to be able to use another carrier's SIM as a prerequisite) -- it's an entirely separate matter.
