OK, I figured it out, after spending over 3 hours on the phone with RIM and them not being able to help me, I figured it out! If you, like me, sync your contacts with gmail, then keep this in mind. Only the contacts that you create in your phone you can use the personalization on. If you do what I did and pull all of your contacts from the wireless sync, then it will not allow you to do that. I'm all happy now LOL.
