Default Contacts

Please Login to Remove!

Hi!

I went from a iphone to a Torch. My computer is a Macbook Pro.

On my iphone, I was able to separate my contacts into groups (business, personals, and emails only).

I was able to either only view one of those groups (as a default setting) or choose the option to view all.

how do I do this with my BB? Its very frustrating to see all those contacts that I rarely use.

Thank you!

From the torch main menu, go direct to contacts. In the contacts directory, click the bb (menu) button. One of the options is "New Group." Click that and name the group. Then inside that group, add members by scrolling down to the body and click the bb button, and select "add a member." The groups you create will be displayed with the rest of the contacts in the main contact directory. Navigate and click on a group, and then it display's all members added in that group. You can set it so that when you open the contacts folder it shows one of the groups by default. Also, you can filter each contact by business or personal, that grouping feature is already built-in to the phone.

I think what you are looking for is the filter option in Contacts. If you categorize your contacts, you can sort them any way you want by going to Contacts>Filter> then any category you wish. I do this by labeling contacts as personal, business, International, etc...

First step is to Categorize your contacts, however. It's time consuming at first, but if you do it every time you add a contact, it's easy to manage after that.

True... but there are some neat workarounds in Outlook to make it easy to categorize contacts in the "by category" view. You simply drag and drop contacts into the desired category. take a second per contact.

Also, unlike the iPhone, you can filter which contacts from your Outlook make it to the BB. -- This is a seriously frustrating miss in the iPhone.

Hope this helps.

Okay so thats what I actually wanted, a filter.

That being said, I instead did groups but now im having an issue. I did 4 groups: emails, businesses, personal and long distance.

For some weird reason, whenever I open my contacts, its jammed on long distances numbers. No matter what I do, if I save or not, I cant go back to all my numbers. I can only go if I add someone in that group.

How do I get out of there and go back to all my numbers????

Thanks for replying!

BTW, I use a mac, I dont have outlook...

Im also not good with technology/computers... Im not in the business industry, my employment doesn't require me using a computer so I just use a mac at home for pleasure.

I switch from iphone to BB because I wanted BBM... So all this is new to me, im so used to having it easy with the iphone! ;)

Finally, even if I try to delete a contact in that jammed long distance group, it doesn't allow me to do it. I press that red X and then confirm im deleting but still, the number stays there.

I dont know if this is normal, but now, I click on the name, view member. I deleted the contact thru there. Now here is the thing: when I press the arrow to go back, there is a blank line where the name is supposed to be, juste like this:

657-787-7878
BLANK LINE
879-787-7890

I can still select the blank line (!?) and then if I choose view member, I see all the info.... Very weird.

What do you mean by a "jammed" long distance group?
What is jammed?
