Default Playbook on Verizon

Please Login to Remove!

I was under the impression that I would be able to tether to my BB without any additional fees if I had an unlimited data plan. A screen came up telling me that I'd have to sign up with Verizon at an additional $20 / mo. I currently use a program from June Fabrics that allows me to connect my laptop with no additional fees.
Is this correct that there is an additional fee that I will have to pay? Does anyone know of a software product that will let me tether without the fee?
Thanks

the major carriers all charge for tether service. They can detect the device that is sending and that why you received the message. You need the added plan.

If there is some reason you have to tether, then you are going to be subject to the possibility of tethering charges. I understand carriers are going to be cracking down on the tethering app users who aren't paying.

But for browsing, bridge the PlayBook and BlackBerry handset and use the Bridge Browser. That is not tethering.

I was indeed not using the bridge browser. That may have been the problem.

Isn't this the issue with AT&T? They consider it tethering if you are using another device to access the internet via the phone (BB or any other type). Just because RIM calls the software a "bridge" doesn't change things.

Maybe I'm wrong...

We know what AT&T is doing (not allowing customers to download the bridge app from app world), and its stated reason (still need to evaluate), and we can all speculate on its real reason.

But you are wrong. Browsing with the bridge browser is not the same as browsing with the default PlayBook browser while tethering a smartphone using Dial-Up networking. The Bridge is not another name for tethering. Visit blackberry.com for a comparison of browsing methods available.

EDIT: Delayed post....responding to post above knotty's.
