Question data plan question

Please Login to Remove!

I have recently purchased a BB and verizon requires a data plan with the phone. I have not accessed any emails nor browsed the internet, yet my billing statement shows I have used data. I assume this is the 'always connected' feature doing this.
I wanted to cancel the data plan and only use SMS and Voice, but verizon shows that I am still using data. They have not been very helpful!
How do I disable my BB from accessing data and continue to use voice and sms?

Eventually I would like to run email through my BB, but it is too costly considering I am still in college.

Sincerely,

confused n00b.

im confused... why did you buy a bb if you don't plan on using data (ie email, etc...)? if verizon removes your bb data plan... the bb portion of the handheld isn't going to do crap.. it will say something like "data connection refused" at all times on the top of the display. however, more than likely the price you paid for that blackberry stipulates that you must keep an active blackberry data plan on your account or you'll be charged full price for the handheld.

personally, i would try to take the unit back and exchange it for a phone only handset (if you're still in the 30 day window) or sell it and buy a phone... there is no need to carry a $300+ handheld when just about any phone on the market can do what you need.

I purchased the phone on ebay recently on the premise that in six months when I begin work, I will need a phone with POP email capability. In the mean time I do not need email access, though the qwerty keyboard makes the phone ideal for SMS. Until I graduate, I have no use for the email and data function and do not want to pay verizon for something I do not use.

Just cancell the BB add-on and you won't be charged for data at all.
