Default Can some give me a more simplified yet detailed def. of BES?

Please Login to Remove!

From the reading I've done, on this website, Blackberry's, and even Wikipedia, I still can not quite catch what exactly is BES! Wikipedia actually confused me. It made me think that BES is for people who want to register their Blackberry on the network without using E-mail? Is that true? Is it more than that?

Thanks?

In the broadest definition, BES is software that allows an adminitrator or a group of administrators the abilty to manage and track the content, functionality and usage of a large group of BlackBerry devices.

It is most commonly used by businesses, but there are "hosted" BES sites that have been put together by individuals as a "co-op" .

BES does allow some features in e-mail delivery that BIS does not, but you don't need to be on a BES server to get e-mail to your BlackBerry.

Hope that helped a little.

Alright that clears it up, thanks!

I'm glad I don't have a blackberry controlled by a company, I feel my life on the internet and in general is somehow monitored enough already

BES is Blackberry Enterprise Server.

It is for companys to use to allow seemly access for employees to their email, contacts, calendars, tasks and notes on their blackberrys.

Bes can be used with either Lotus Domino server, microsoft exchange server, or groupwise email.

Good explanations! Additionally a short and extremly simplified explanation I normally use:

BlackBerry comes in 2 major versions.
BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) - the BlackBerry server is located in RIM's network and pop3/imap mail accounts can be synced wirelessly.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) - the BlackBerry server is located in your own (company's) network and your entire PIM data can be synced wirelessly from your messaging server (like MS Exchange).

It's like Activesync with PMS.
