This may help. There are a few causes.
The BlackBerry Messenger icon does not appear on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Causes
The BlackBerry Messenger application is not installed on the BlackBerry smartphone.
BlackBerry Messenger is installed on the BlackBerry smartphone, but the icon is hidden.
The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but it is corrupted.
The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but it requires updating.
BlackBerry Messenger might not currently be supported by the wireless service provider.
Cause 1
The BlackBerry Messenger application is not installed on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution 1
Complete the following steps:
Download the latest BlackBerry Device Software from the wireless service provider's web site.
Install the BlackBerry Device Software on a computer that has BlackBerry® Desktop Manager installed on it.
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
Follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.

Cause 2
BlackBerry Messenger is installed on the BlackBerry smartphone, but the icon is hidden.
Resolution 2
Display the hidden BlackBerry Messenger icon. For instructions, see KB01914.

Cause 3
The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but it is corrupted.
Resolution 3a
Remove and reinstall the BlackBerry Messenger application on the BlackBerry smartphone.
In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
Follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to remove the BlackBerry Messenger application.
On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Advanced Options > Applications.
Select the application, and select Delete.
Resolution 3b
Back up the BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. For instructions, see KB12487.
Delete all data and applications on the BlackBerry smartphone by using the Wipe Handheld option. For instructions, see KB02318.
Resolution 3c
Download and install the latest BlackBerry Device Software from the wireless service provider's web site.
Resolution 3d
Follow the steps in Resolution 3a to remove the application from the BlackBerry smartphone.
Open the browser on the BlackBerry smartphone and go to
http://blackberry.com/messenger.
Follow the prompts on the screen to install the latest version of the BlackBerry Messenger application.

Cause 4
If the BlackBerry smartphone is running BlackBerry Device Software 4.2, the BlackBerry Messenger application may require updating in order for the icon to appear.
Resolution 4a
From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to remove the BlackBerry Messenger application.
Download the latest BlackBerry Device Software from the wireless service provider's web site.
Install the BlackBerry Device Software on a computer that has BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on it.
Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
Follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.
Resolution 4b
Follow the steps in Resolution 3a to remove the BlackBerry Messenger application from the BlackBerry smartphone.
Open the BlackBerry® Browser and go to
http://blackberry.com/messenger.
Follow the prompts on the screen to install the latest version of the BlackBerry Messenger application.

Cause 5
The wireless service provider might not currently support BlackBerry Messenger for use on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution 5
Contact the wireless service provider to find out if BlackBerry Messenger is supported on their BlackBerry smartphones.
Note: When a BlackBerry smartphone user invites someone on a certain wireless service provider's networks by personal identification number (PIN), the invitee gets an invitation icon on the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen. The only way to remove the invitation icon is to remove the application.
