Hey guys. I was just wondering if it's okay to use a RAZR car charger on my 8700. I have a friend that has a 7105, and he uses the RAZR cc on his blackberry. The only thing i'm concerned about is if itll mess up the battery or phone somehow.

btw the reason I ask is because I already have a RAZR cc.

I use one on my 7130 and nothings happened yet. I used one on a 8125 pocket pc too.

I have used my OEM RIM charger to charge a Dopod 818 Pro with no apparent ills and regularly charge my 7130c via USB using generic Mini-B cables. No problems whatsoever.

Razr CLA works JUST fine for the 8700

I also use a razor charger for my 8700, Although I wouldn't use the 8700 charger for the razor. The razor has a lower voltage requirement, if i remember correctly. So, you'll charge the BB slower, with the razor charger, but possibly fry the razor with the BB charger.

They are the exact same USB charger, so you are fine.

Belkin makes a car charger and they advertise the same package for RIM Blackberry and Motorola Razr.

The OEM chargers for both aren't the same, but there are ways to use them. You can use the RAZR charger on a BB, but it's NOT recommended to use the BB charger on the RAZR. It doesn't provide the correct level of voltage or amps or something like that.

I use the Motorola car charger on my 8700c - I've got one in each car and one in my travel case. You can get them on eBay for < $10, they're practically indestructible, and they just work. Hey, what more could you want?

My wife's got a RAZR and has chargers all over the place....both cars & a couple around the house. I've been using them to charge my 8700 with no problems so far.

They both supply 5V DC. The RAZR charger charges at 550mA while the BB charger charges at 750mA. The RAZR charger will get the job done, it will just take a little longer.

As someone else said earlier...I don't think I'd use the BB charger on the RAZR. May not hurt it, but it'd be charging at 50% more current than the RAZR charger.

I don't have a RAZR charger, but I do know electonics. Think of it like this: voltage is PUSHed and current is PULLed. If the specs listed are correct (voltage the same on both), then there won't be a problem. The 5.5volts is being applied by the charger to the phone. The phone determines how much current is drawn. One charger offers 550mA and the other CAN supply as much as 750mA (more robust charger) but will _not_ force more current into the phone. These phones all charge via a standard PC USB port as well, which are only rated at 500mA max, so they shouldn't draw more than that.

Again, assuming both chargers supply the same voltage (5 to 5.5v) and offer at least 500mA of current, then either charger is fine with either phone.

if the provided voltage is within spec - even though the charging circuit will vary the load (load = effective resistance which determines current draw) over the charging cycle - a _properly_working_ BB charging circuit (in the BB itself) will not draw more current than it can handle

Yes you can use it. But when you try to charge the razr with the bb charger it will not work, it says unable to charge.
