Default "ABC" Tab ???

Please Login to Remove!

In the top right corner of the screen of my pearl now appears a "tab" that is gray with white letters "ABC" covering the signal bars. It is the same area where the Shift arrow appears when you press it or the caps button appears when it is pushed. This hasn't always been there I don't know how I got it there, but more importantly, how to get it off. Now when I type emails the BB doesn't seem to "know" what I am trying to spell and I am guessing the "ABC" tab is the culprit. Can someone please help. Thanks in advance.

While entering text, press the menu key and enable SureType. The 'ABC' indicator means you're in MultiTap mode.

Ahhh...thanks. I know I didn't disable it by going through the menu...how could it have been changed?

it is the symbol for Multitap, so you press the button once for the 1st letter, twice for the 2nd letter.

To get rid of it, go to creta a new sms txt or email and go into the menu and chose "Enable Suretype". That icon should now disappear

I've seen people mention that you can hold '*' to switch between SureType and MultiTap, but it doesn't seem to work on my Pearl.

That went away in one of the software updates. I think it was lost in the upgrade from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1.

Ah, I wondered why my phone stopped mysteriously entering MultiTap mode.

Mine does too, but that's because I have a SIM PIN set. After I enter it, it goes into text entry mode and asks for the BB password.

I had that happen once, where the 'multi-tap' indicator stayed stuck on the home screen over the signal indicator. Must be some kind of bug. It shouldn't be displayed if you're not entering text, even if you're in multi-tap mode.

mine switches into multitap mode every now and then, still can't figure out why its doing it. it seems to be happening when i am in the middle of a text and receive a call... when i go back, the ABC is showing. its damn annoying but pretty easy to switch back

It's always been like that for as long as I can remember. If you are in multitap it leaves the ABC on the screen all the time.

Really? If I'm in multi-tap mode, the ABC is only displayed when I'm entering text. When I exit the SMS or email or whatever I happen to be writing, the ABC goes away.

That's new then. I hadn't even noticed that as I never use multitap. I wonder which software upgrade changed that?

Not sure it's new, as I'm running the stock T-Mobile 4.2.0.64.

I just tested it out to make sure, and that's the behaviour I see. But, I did have the ABC "stuck" on the home screen once. I remember that for sure. But it's not the norm, at least for me...

One one of the bb boards, someone posted that T-Mobile is going to release an OS update on Aug. 13th, and that they will provide users with simple instructions on how to update their OS.

The following corrections/improvements were listed:

Daylight Savings Patch (DST2007) – The new software will now included the DST2007 Patch
Audio - 2-5 second incoming audio delay
ABC indicator stuck on home screen
Reboot problem when switch to a blue tooth headset while on phone
Disappearing/Missing Call logs, SMS, Email and MMS messages
Freeze Issues
myFaves empty/transparent icon
Keypad unlocks at will
Voice only customers will now have access to the Instant Messaging application

If you'll notice, the third item addresses this issue....

By the way, if you go into an area where you can enter text. and press the "SYMBLE" key and hold it, it will switch between multi tap and Suretype.

However, being you can't enter text from the Home Page, displaying the ABC icon is an obvious bug, and VERY annoying! It covers up important info for me....

My guess is that the ABC icon on the home screen for Multitap was changed in the upgrade from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1. I just never noticed because I rarely use Mulititap (good find!) However, holding down the symbol key to change back and forth no longer works. That did change in the upgrade from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1.

Exclamation Multitap issues

I did a search and didn't find the answer to question regarding multitap. I did the upgrade and now notice that when i use the multitap it is either too slow for my taps or is too fast. I know you can change the speed but can't for the life of me find it again! HELP!! Thanks in advance
