The page installs the app directly on the device via USB, you have to use IE because RIM obviously haven't caught up with the fact there are other (better) web browsers out there!!! When I tried to install from my office (with admin rights) I couldn't because our firewall prevented it so you may have the same problem.

Problem solved - I was trying to do the ota download from a third party site. If you go to: www.blackberry.com/messenger the ota download works!
I thought www.blackberry.com/messenger was for desktop installation only.

Attachyour device to PC via USB cable, launch desktop manager, run application loader and then uncheck the bbmessenger box on the list of installed applications and do next and finish it should reboot and remove your bbmessenger application.

If you go to http://www.blackberry.com/messenger, it says Cingular Wireless doesn't support it. Apparently, this doesn't seem to be the case. I've got an 8700c on Cingular and I can IM my friend on his 7100i on Nextel. I'm on BES 4.0, he's not.

Then it must be a conspiracy. RIM doesn't like Cingular users.

Messenger install
Hi, I've applied the 4.1 software to a 7100 Blackberry and I have the Messenger software installed. I then Applied it to another device, a 7100v, and this time the Messenger software wasn't available in App Loader, I checked I had the correct loader files and they were the same '7100-v4.1.0.256_P1.8.0.143' just says 'No additional applications designed for your device were found'
Anyone know where I can get the messenger alx file from?
Thanks

I think BBMessenger is better than Gtalk - with one exception: GTalk allows you to chat with non-BB users. Is there any way to connect BBMessenger with desktop clients like Gtalk, MSN, Yahoo or others? Or any plans to release a desktop chat app for PC users?

That just means don't go calling Cingular Tech Support with issues related to BBM. The BBM works great on my Cingular-Blue 7290!
I call them on the very, very, very last resort anyway. Thankfully, it's not often.

I recently updated 2 handhelds to 4.1 core. I added BB Messenger as a piece of fluff that I thought might be useful. Trouble is, it just doesn't work on one of the handhelds.
On one handheld, the conversation appears perfectly. On the second, the conversation shows none of the text from the other persons messages. In fact, if the one that works (A) messages the one that doesn't (B), there is never any alert of any kind. No Current Conversations start, etc.
I've tried reloading the BB Messenger (4.1 came with a slightly older version). I've also tried deleting the contacts and adding them by Use Once - PIN. I cannot figure this out.
Anyone else seen this before? Feel free to message me... If I don't reply it's because I didn't get it...

Delete it and the reload the newer version instead of loading over the older version, it will make a difference.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that. I did. I'd never try to reload over a module that I suspect is buggy.

More info...
I've once again deleted and reinstalled BB Messenger... Here are some more specific problems I'm getting...
A: Works
B: Doesn't work
When A sends a message to B, the signal activity arrows go crazy, so it seems like the message is getting there, just doesn't display. When B sends a message to A, A gets it fine. When A then replies to B, B gets a message on the bottom "Redman 68 is typing a message," but nothing ever shows up, and that message never goes away.

Sorry for being obvious again but everything seems to point to me to A being faulty, have you wiped A and reloaded the software. I would do a complete javaloader wipe not a security wipe so that you get the dreaded 507 (no software). Short of that working i would then delete all third party apps and then reload one at a time testing in between to see if you can isolate the culprit.

Javaloader wipe? You mean reload the OS from Application Loader?

Ok, I downloaded the SDK (or whatever) and JavaLoader.exe -usb wiped the handheld. Then I reloaded 4.1 Telstra, downloaded BB Messenger from the web site (don't wanna use the older version that comes bundled with the 4.1 core software). Same problems.
Again, I JavaLoader.exe -usb wiped and this time I loaded the 4.0.2 Verizon core. Downloaded BB Messenger from the web. Same problems.
This is very strange. When I message people, it shows that they are typing a message, and the checkmark that says my messages were sent get the D (for delivered, presumably), then an R (for replied to, I assume). But no messages ever show up.
Anyone have any more ideas? This is getting very frustrating.
