The sync with my Google contacts caused a duplication of my contacts 15 times each. I would just delete the whole thing and start again but some of my contacts came from my previous phone and were not in Google. Any advise on the quickest way to delete these duplicates?

Are the contacts somehow duplicated in your Google contacts as well?

I would imagine it'd be easier to manipulate larger quantities of data on a computer. So use either Outlook, or if somehow you can transfer all the contacts to your Google account and make the deletions from there. It can be done from the phone, just takes longer depending on how many of your contacts were duplicated.
