Default NES emulator for the Blackberry?

Please Login to Remove!

If anyone thinks this is a good idea.. there is source code available for a Java NES Emulator. Surely a start if one wanted to make it into a midlet:

ooOOo I like that idea, but I would think the roms would eat up a LOT of storage on most devices. I'd definatly be interested in testing it, if and when one got written or ported to the BB. My only concern is the rom eating memory.

Why? Although with OS 4.0 ther eis very little free space for applications, there is some. Most NES roms are on the order of 256KB, 512KB at the most..

New Blackberry 7290's come with 32 megs of RAM, plenty of free space will be available for applications, even large roms..

And besides, there are so many NES games under 100k (even under 50k) that it's definately feasable.

VNES won't compile into a COD:

C:\PROGRA~1\RESEAR~1\BLACKB~1.7\bin>rapc import="c:\Program Files\Research in Mo
tion\Blackberry JDE 3.7\lib\net_rim_api.jar" codename=vnes -midlet jad=vnes.jad
vnes.jar

How did you get it to work? What os do you run, what JDE did you use to convert it (or did you just do OTA? If yes, do you use BES?)

MIDP 2.0 is not supported until the JDE 4.0 is released to compile code for the BB OS 4.0.

You can try with the 3.7 JDE but I seriously doubt it will work.

Cheers,
Andrew

I did OTA. The program seems to run, but I need some ROM's to actually test it... anyone have a good site?

I tried it out. The program opens and runs, and the game boots, but I couldnt give it any input, so I couldn't play.

If you wait long enough it will launch, setting the speed to around 20 will let you sorta play. You will need to remap the keys for the bberry. Hopefully someone will find a clever way to speed it up.

Oh, and this was running on a 7520.

I tried this on a 7100t I think, and even after remapping, I couldn't give it any input.
