Default Google maps / BES It policy

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

Really new to the whole blackberry thing. I have a bunch of 8100's (Vodafone) to trial within my company & I have installed BES and its all up and running with exchange etc perfectly.

Google maps is something that intrests me but I amd getting errors on the 8100's saying that "You Enterprise blackberry Server does not allow connections ti the Google maps service" .

Does anybody know exactly what I need to enable to allow this to work ? I have set allo external connections to 'true' (even though it defaults to that) but I am having no luck :(

Many Thanks
Larno

What is your overall IT Policy set to for external connections, this will override any application level policy.

This could be an over-simplified troubleshooting step, but are you able to open a browser and get out to the web on the device?

Yeah I can, it always asks for proxy authentication through our proxy server first though but after entering my credentials it always works fine. I considered that it may be getting blocked but I cant input any info anywhere as as soon as i load google maps on the 8100 it trys to connect to server.

Right, confirmed that the issue is our proxy server blocking the connection to google as the google maps program trys to connect instantly without giving me an option to enter proxy credentials.

Is their anyway to store a proxy username / password in a blackberry 8100 so it always trys to use that info without prompting me all the time?

Thanks

You can't do it on the device as far as I know, but it is possible in the BES to pass credentials for a specific URL using proxy mappings. To access those go to the properties for the MDS Connection Service, click Proxy then click Proxy Mappings. I've never heard of this having to be done before though so I think there might be a problem with your proxy setup, but then again I'm not entirely familiar with the intricacies of BES + proxy so I could be way off base

Thanks for that,

I tried your suggestion and put in my username / password in the http://* & https://* mappings under proxy but it just didnt do anything, on the MDS statistics in BES it has 0 successful and 0 failed authorization requests so not sure MDS is doing anything even though the service is enabled?

All exchange functions etc are working fine to the phones.
