No...you should check off on the phone in the list. Sorry, it said Aircard from the last time I was helping someone.

i'm back... no change after the *22899. I have to agree that if you are getting those kind of numbers, you are almost certainly utilitizing RevA... especially the upload speed. Just out of curiosity... why have you chosen not to use VZAccess Manager?

I work for Verizon, as I said, and I have 3 different phones tethered, and two different aircards hooked up to my laptop. (for training purposes). Manual connections are easier to manage and set-up for multiple devices in my opinion. And, to add, I have seen cases that the VZAccess Mgr software was causing issues, and manual connections fixed the issue.

more info here..... when I look at the dial up connections that have been set up for me, there is some interesting info. First, there are two connections, first is 3G, second is National Access Broadband Access. My guess is the 3G was built when using the modem card. The NABA was setup when using the tethered 8130. Furthermore, the modem setting found inside have interesting limitations... i.e. for the NABA, the maximum speed is set to 230400???? Can you shed any light on this... what is your settings??

btw, the modem in my dial up networking is entitled ...

Verizon Wireless Phone HS (1xRTT)

with the maximum speed at 230400.

The modem driver must come from verizon... so this is probably the only one i have available to me?? (if I were to set it up manually)

You got me on that one, and I don't have my Pearl here to hook it up. I am on wifi.

I have NEVER had to adjust any settings that you are talking about...
I'd leave it alone.

The first time I set up my tether the 1x freaked me out...don't sweat it.

Do you see 1xEVDO in the top left of your phone screen, or just 1x?

you know, i just might be on a fringe area in Cleveland. if you are sure that you are getting those numbers on your tethered 8130, then you certainly appear to be benefitting from RevA in your area. I am going to try to set up a manual connection to my 8130.... of course, at the cost of some down time. Can I email you with my results... you are the ONLY one that even comes close to understanding even a little of this. I need to know because my decision day is upon me for the 720. On Tuesday, I need to let VZ know whether I want to keep the 720 or let it go. If I say keep it... I'm locked in for two years. It worked really well for me at home (won't be there again for a while). But if I can save $45 a month by using the 8130, it's a no brainer. But I really don't want to sacrifice performance in the meantime. Would you say that the aircard is a significant performance improvement over the tethered 8130? and do you think there is any validity to the 8130 being upgradeable to RevA?? (if it's not already).

Here is my honest opinion.

A tethered solution is never going to give you the exact performance a straight up aircard will.

If maximum performance is a non-negotiable...Aircards rule here.

Another thing I don't like about tether- Can't be on the phone and online at the same time.

But...value of speed for the price- tether rules.

Flip a coin?

Let me put it this way.
Here's a senerio-

I have 10mb home internet (cable),
Sierra 595 aircard,
and a tethered pearl.

I would only connect my Pearl if the power was out, and I lost my aircard.

That's right. It should say EV, not EVDO. My bad.

you are absolutely correct... at home, i have a high speed internet connection. the broadband option is for emergency situations on the road when I need to get quantities of data to a client from the road (thus the need for performance). But I'll probably use it once a month.... thus the question of spending an extra 60 a month. I guess I'm just not sure what to expect out of the tethered solution. You're numbers are acceptable to me. This entire session has been tethered for me... it is OK, but I'm not really sending any data either....

-90dBM is NOT that good of a signal at all. It's tolerable, but could be a lot better. -90dBm certainly doesn't mean 90%. The lower the -XXdBm is, the better.

my problem is that I don't have the aircard here to compare. BUT, I have to respect the numbers that you have gotten from your 8130 tethered.... If I were able to get those, I'm probably OK... just not getting them here ????? not even close... and in a reasonably strong signal area. I guess there is no way to tell whether I'm in a RevA enabled area (other than VZ documentation). The fact that Cleveland was to be RevA in 23 days came from a call to VZ tech rep (different from all others that i spoke with).
