Thumbs up MicroSD Backup Super Script and Blackberry Icon!

Please Login to Remove!

WHAT!!!!!?!! Why would i need to backup my MicroSD card from the blackberry? Simple, pictures, music, files... you name it!

I have converted my G6 Lite Super Backup Script to the Blackberry 8100. This is ideal because of the new Mass Storage functionality to the 8100. Without further ado!

MicroSDBackup-
- Replaces shell icon in my computer to custom 8100 icon I created.
- Includes a backup script that is accessible via right clicking on the blackberry icon and choosing "Backup MicroSD"
- Backup creates a timestamp.txt file that tells you everytime you backed up your microsd.

What the Script Does-

1. Creates a new directory "c:\MicroSDBackup" (you can change this if you want)
2. Copies all the folders off of the MicroSD card into this folder.
3. I have excluded certain file types like .mp3 and .avi (you can add or change this)
4. Script is fine tuned to only copy newer files.... more detail in next section.

Taken from script comments-
REM ------------------------MicroSDbackup.bat-----------------------
REM Creates directory c:\MicroSDBackup
REM changes directory to new folder
REM create exclusion list of .mp3 and .avi and you may add what you like here
REM executes xcopy ;only newer files;copies all subdirectories;ignore errors;suppress y prompt;assume directory
REM append date and time to Timestamp file
REM deletes exclusion list
REM Please make sure to edit your drive letter to match what your 8100 comes up on your computers
__________________________________________________
WHAT THE SCRIPT DOES NOT DO!

- It does not automatically create a backup upon insertion of blackberry. You have to manually remember and right click Backup MicroSD.
- It will not backup the actual blackberry itslef.... Just what is on the MicroSD card.

__________________________________________________ __

Show me some pictures!

Below is the icon i created for the drive.

Below is the right click menu in windows to show you how to backup.

It is that simple, plug your 8100 in, right click hit "Backup MicroSD"

__________________________________________________ _____
How do I get this to work?????

1. Download zip file.
2. Edit MicroSDBackup.bat to your liking.. (replace drive letter, add or delete file exclusions)
3. Copy all three files to the root of your 8100.
4. Right click on all three files and goto propteries.... click hide this file for all three. So they stay hidden and out of the way. (if you choose to do so).
4. Unplug your 8100 and then plug it back in. Voila!
__________________________________________________ ____________

Here is the zip download ------> Click Here

Files included are
1x autorun.inf
1x MicroSDBackup.txt
1x 8100.ico
__________________________________________________ ______________
This is a simple backup script that should cause no problems on your 8100, but i do not take any responsibilities for the use of this script/code or directions. I posted this because i felt i would share what i use. There is no warranty and you assume all risks when you download this zip file.

Give credit where credit is due. If you decide to make your own scripts from this please mention me.

I got alot of useful stuff on my website/blog check it out.

Kradest.com

Hope this is helpful to you guys and gals.

********************NEW UPDATE****************************************

I have updated the files to include the auto run menu option...

you just need to replace the autorun.inf file on your blackberry.

**********************NEWER UPDATE***** NOV16/06*******************
I have added a right click link to start desktop manager on your computer... This way, if you lose your icon, or don't want to go to the start menu, you can open from the right click menu...

So i see 70 of you opened this thread...... Anyone try it? thoughts? ideas?

I could also add an entry when you plug the blackberry into the computer that popsup where it asks you if you want to...

open
play
Backup MicroSD

I figured the right click on the drive was less obtrusive.

Not a bad question.....

1. Download the zip
2. Unzip it
3. Connect your blackberry to your computer with the mass storage function enabled on the blackberry.
4. If you have windows xp a box will come up with a prompt of what you should do.
5. Click "open" or goto "my computer" and double click on the blackberry drive.
6. Copy the three files in the zip to that drive....

The root is the top level of the microsd card/blackberry.

So your card at the top level should be

1 x blackberry (folder)
1 x autorun.inf
1 x 8100.ico
1 x MicroSDBackup.bat

once your drive looks like that... unplug and re-plug in your blackberry... you should now see the blackberry icon....

you should see if you can edit the bat file to suit your needs.

thats ok... that means that you have already made a backup.. when it is done it will dissappear.

Check your c drive for the folder... look inside and make sure your data is in the folders.

This script only backups files that are newer or have not been backed up before.

You do not need any software to edit this.

If you right click on the .bat file and hit edit, it will open up in notepad. From there you can follow line by line and see where it is backing up and you can change that....

The default location is

C:\MicroSDBackup

check your c: drive to see if the folder exists, if it does go in and see if any files copied over.

FYI- a .bat or batch file is a txt file created to run a bunch of "dos" commands. Dont' be afraid... you can look up all this stuff on google.

I have added this on my blog listed above... don't need to plug myself....

I will add the second option to have an autorun option come up when you plugin the blackberry. Both options will be available.

yeah i support wm5 devices and i beta test new treos. I prefer bb because they are a cleaner platform.

I wouldn't say this is a program.. but an extension of the blackberry. Glad your backing up your pics.... i can't imagine losing some of the pics on my phone... here is a super easy free way.
