I wanted to try and give back something I have created for myself. I've created a current weather and forecast webpage that is formatted for my 7100. It may work on other bb's but not sure of the formatting.

I enabled css and html tables to get everything working correctly. If anyone has any questions bugs/whatever feel free to let me know as I can't test everything

** UPDATE 9/20/05 **
Now Supports Cities Worldwide! Find them via the "Search"
** END OF UPDATE **

http://www.artica.net/~leddy

If you want to Auto Refresh every 15 minutes select the checkbox

If you want direct access to your area you can use:

If you want direct access to your area and Auto Refresh every 15 minutes you can use:

Please replace 90210 with your actual zipcode for your area, unless you live in Beverly Hills

Thanks to everyone!

Leddy,

Thank you so much!!

This is a very nice and clean page you set up.

Any other tricks up your sleeve? I'm a fairly new user of a 7100t also. I just don't do or know much of the programming stuff.

Thanks again!

Hope everyone likes it. I haven't heard any complaints or abnormalities. I guess that's a good sign. Got it right the first time

Nothing up my sleeve for now. What can I say I'm a weather nut and I know php. Thank goodness for unlimited web traffic

Default Weather Application

Leddy - check out BBWeather at http://sourceforge.net/project/shown...ease_id=318282

It is an app that will show weather conditions and the current forecast....

Also BBToday has a weather plug-in
http://sourceforge.net/project/shown...ease_id=310460

And finally but not lastly (as this is an awesome application) is: PocketDay with a weather plug-in -

Thanks for the contribution! In addition to the other alternatives, i think the "app" that is most impressive is the Blackberry provided service at http://mobile.blackberry.com/

Push weather straight to your device, no need to load up a browser to access the internet or anything. The weather shows 5 days with animated icons, along with both celsius and farenheit indications. It's one feature that "wows" people when you show them.

JMFO: Thanks for the links. I had already loaded those up on my bb before making this "app". Each had it's pluses and minuses. The bbweather is formatted for the wider screen bb's. The BBToday weather was buggy at best. always having issues. I removed it from BBToday as well as stocks since I'm not interested. I must say it's a great app. Kudos to the author.

jumpmonger23: I think you just gave me an idea. I could create a script to email people(that signup) once a day their 5 day forecast. Hmmm

Thanks for the positive feedback. I appreciate it and am glad other people find it useful!

Hey leddy - the mobile.blackberry.com push weather is already configurable being able to push you the weather once per day for multiple locations - but your app could contain even more info, say things like sunrise/sunset and more "geeky" stuff.

i think a webpage definitely serves a better purpose than an application. applications are great, but they also take up persistent memory, whereas a webpage will remove itself from memory once you close the browser. a very big plus, imo. good job there.

Made a few visual changes, it was hard to read the Day headings in bright light situations. Should be a lot easier to read now. I've also changed it to 5 day forecast instead of 3.

I've tried looking at adding a radar, I think it will only take away from the formatting and "ruin" the clean look. If anyone has some suggestions I'd be willing to entertain them. I also like the idea of a push as it will allow html code. Unfortunately I don't have access to a BES server :(

Could someone explain what you need to do to get the weather pushed to your device from mobile.blackberry.com

I am not sure but I am just totally missing something. I browsed the different weather links but am not sure what else needs to be done. Thanks.

I modified it today to add a zipcode submit button at the bottom of the screen. Makes it easier if you want to view other areas.

Thanks again for all the comments. We are forever making changes for the better

SUFan: you need to browse with your 7100, you will have a "push services" as the first selection. This won't appear if you are not using your bb.

JMF0, these are great, just what I've been looking for, but sometimes i get an error saying the BB won't render the image. It seems to happen when I use the browser that loads up with "T-Mobile" on the screen rather than "Blackberry". Are these pages limited to only one of the browsers?

Well, I just tried it, and the "T-Mobile" browser worked. Weird. I guess my question to everyone is what's the difference b/t those 2 browsers? Is one limited and one not? How do you get it to default to one or the other?

Leddy,

I don't see push services as an option (is BES required for this?). BTW, your app is very nice. Thanks.

I modified the first post reflecting a few changes.
You can now browse to http://www.artica.net/~leddy it will ask for a zipcode and show you the weather. It makes for less typing on the url address. Users with bookmarks or accessing "the old" way can continue to do so.

Cheers!
