Default UMA Not Working

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I know there are lots of threads regarding UMA and I am sorry to post another one. I am new to BlackBerry, this forum and UMA.

I have done a bit of reading and due to weak signal in my house I decided to get a handset with UMA, BlackBerry was good for me as I wanted to get my email on the go as well.

So the BlackBerry is set up and I have set up my Wireless connection on it as well however the BlackBerry is not switching to UMA and I cannot find any information as to why or how to set things up on the router and phone.

I have a BlackBerry 8900 from T-Mobile UK, my ISP is BT and I am using the BT Business Hub 2700HGV WiFi Router.

I have pulled the battery as suggested in some threads but nothing is happening, all that is displayed on the home screen on the BB is GPRS and a very weak network signal 1-2 Bars.

Could anyone shed any light on this issue?

Thanks in advance

I don't know what blackberry booster is.

If you have push email, the blackberry browser and all the blackberry branded services, then you have a blackberry data plan.

You need blackberry specific data service to use UMA. That's why I asked, just to be sure.

Take a look at http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.p...2F_UMA_FAQ.27s. Maybe you'll see your answer. If you are connecting to wifi ok, I don't know what to suggest.

Make sure you are indeed conncected to wifi. If you look at manage connections on the blackberry, do you have a green checkmark?

I don't know any more. See what others say. All I can advise is search the forum. I'm sure the answer is here; just don't know what it is.

If you're getting the green check then you should be on UMA. I'd phone up t-mo and query it.

That's probably the best route at this point. Hopefully the OP will get a good rep first try.

My understanding is all tmobile has it, not just tmobile USA. In fact, forum members have discussed using UMA on foreign travel.

I don't know what to tell you.

Could it be that my router is not set up properly to allow the phone to connect via UMA? I cannot find anything that says T-Mobile UK does not support UMA

In all the things you,ve already tried, did you re-send service books? If not, give that a try.

I don't know about router. I'm unfortuanate in that everything has worked fine for me. No troubles. Haven't had to troubleshoot myself. I'm using some linksys router, nothing special that I know of.

If Tmobile UK doesn't support it, there's no way to get it. Having or not having a data plan makes no difference as it's not required for UMA. I thought Orange UK was the only one who provided UMA over there.

To travel on UMA, what happens is the phone is connecting back to the home network over the internet. It has nothing to do with what is available by a local provider.

The handset connecting to the home network over the internet makes sense. I made a bad assumption there.

Disagree that you don't need a data plan. No data plan = no service book = no UMA, correct?

Again, I'm surprised Tmobile UK doesn't support it. As I say, I assumed it was tmobile worldwide, not just tmobile USA. However, no Tmobile UK statement that it doesn't support it does not mean that they do.

dhodgson, any new info?
