I had the same issue with my 8320 a couple of weeks ago.

TMo provided me with an evaluation unit. The UMA worked find at home until I used the 'Switch Device Wizard' to move the data from my 8700c. I used the security feature to wipe the device and then used the restore feature to restore my address book, calendar and emails from the backup of my 8700c. I then used synchronize to update and transfer the latest files. DM then asked me if I wanted to switch my devices, which I did successfully.

It is a longer process then just using the 'Switch Device Wizard', but it appears the only way to migrate to the 8320.

After you perform a security wipe... When you go to do the Advanced restore...

Select as little as possible...

i.e. restore messages, maybe browser book marks.. BUT Get your address book, tasks, etc.. back via Sync instead...

That way you reduce the risk of restoring whatever it is that breaks UMA...

Sorry, when I ran into the issue on Sept 15, I didn't spend too much time trouble shooting to narrow down which piece of the Desktop Manager backup caused the problem...

My unit is used for WORK... so I didn't have time to mess with it. Once I got it working.. that is where I left it...

Net effect.. Unless you want to spend the time figuring it out... Restore as little as possible when you restore!!

After wiping the handheld and using the "Advance Restore", make sure to resend the Service Books.

Grrr... I went to follow these instructions like a good little informed user and I screwed up. I didn't look closely and thought that "Advanced" would be an option when I hit "Restore" so I used "Restore" and selected the ipd file and saw it immediately begin sending data to the Curve. $&*%! I quickly hit "Cancel", but not before the first item got sent over and I didn't look quickly enough to see what it was.

I then followed the instructions and only selected the databases that I thought might be OK and did the restore, but I'm wondering how much harm might have been done by what did get sent. Is there any restore log I can check to see what got sent?

[EDIT: Well, I tried a test restore back to my Pearl and watched what happened - the first thing it does is "Requesting Database list" and then goes into "Organizing databases" which is all I believe I saw when I accidentally tried to restore to the Curve so I think I'm safe...phew. And to wit, the "Mobile Network" settings appear to be correct...]

I think that's normal (not good/correct, but normal) as mine had it all three times during the adventures. I have to import the CAcert root authority for specific work related needs, each time I was in the Certificate store setting things up I noticed anny way with the red X, expired chain.

So all of these solutions seem to be for BIS folks. I'm on a BES and all of my settings/data are automatically pushed down to me when I connect to the BES. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts about what? Many of us are on a BES.
This works fine whether on BIS or BES.

Your WiFi settings are NOT sent by your BES.

I cannot get UMA to work for the dear life of me.. I followed all the instructions but no dice. Everything else is working great, no major issues so far (fingers crossed)

It is possible that the wireless carrier does not support WiFi.
Easiest way to tell if it is configured right (I'm not kidding) is to go to a Starbucks and see if you can get it working on their WiFi.

Both Mark_Venture (who figured this out) and I are on BES.

Helmdawg - here's what I would try:

Turn the radio and WiFi off.
Back up the BlackBerry.
Do a Security Wipe.
Turn WiFi on before doing anything.
You should have UMA. If not, I have no idea.
If UMA is there, restore the messages and bookmarks - the minimum you can live with.

Rerun Enterprise Activation and rejoin your BES.

Good luck!

Yes. Read the link at the bottom of the FIRST POST OF THIS THREAD..

If your BES does an OTA backup... then wipe the blackberry... restore only your messages... Try Wi-Fi/UMA.. if it works then re-Enterprise Activate.

That is what I did (see link in first post of this thread)... and it works.

What if the BES auto pushes everything for OTA backup to restore? Will Service Books be affected in this way affecting a resolution?

FAQ's don't quite mention this unless my skim reading fly-by missed it.

The problem apparently ONLY occurs if you use the Switch Device Wizard or backup an old BB and then do a full restore to the new 8320.

BES does not apparently backup up *everything* and then restore it.

I just spoke to a blackberry tech support from Tmobile, she said UMA and hotspot problems should be resolve tomorrow when the 8320 "officially" comes out.

I love this site. I did a restore this morning and noticed that my wifi was all screwed up. I was worried. I came here. In 5 minutes I found the solution, and now ten minutes later my phone is back to normal with all my old info in it.

Thanks guys!!!

So in other threads, people call CS and are told they don't know about any UMA problems, and now they will be fixed tomorrow.

Hmmmm...

Interesting.

Since the problem described in this thread is more a "local" problem with the items backedup/restored using Desktop Manager... I'm curious as to what T-MOBILE feels will be resolved??

I gave in...

I just ordered an 8320 from TMO. My Pearl will find a good home with a friend of mine.
