Default Dual sim for Blackberry Bold 9700

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

Has anyone been able to get dual sim adapter (such as from Simore) to work with the bold 9700?
One would always prefer buying a built-in adapter from RIM. But I did not hear anything from RIM about dual sim phones or did I missed any recent announcement?

Cheers..

Blackberries are probably the worst candidates for dual sims. BB data is only going to come through one of them. I think the APN would have to be changed each swap as well for regular data services.

And the boot time leaves a bit to be desired. I think it's easier to just carry a separate phone. Might be more clumsy, but try swapping sims a couple times and it gets old waiting for startup.

Thanks for the quick reply Monkeypaw. I am assuming when you say swap you refer to removing a sim card and inserting another in its place.
According to this video,
Simore Video
there appears to be no such need.

Well that's cool. I still think for the cost of a dual sim, a second phone is cheaper and more convenient.

Oh for the old analog N-AMPS days, when you could have one carrier on the A band and another on the B.

Apparently it does work for 9000. But according to the website, 9700 is not yet compatible as in the adapter is not guaranteed to work with it at this time.

If it can works in the 9000, it's a good chance that a version that works on the 9700 will come out sooner or later.

I really need one.

Derekyeu,
On contacting Simore, they said their Platinum adapter (supports 3g) ought to work for 9700 although that has not been completely validated. The adapter has received excellent reviews for 9000 and other phones. And Simore is willing to send out the adapter for a reduced price of 60 euro (for the price of the silver adapter). Would you be interested in trying it out? I'll find out about return policy, warranty etc...

Those dual sim adapters on ebay are around $10. Why the Simore adapter is 6X more? Are they really that much better?

Derekyou,
I would guess it is because of the 3g support, warranty and return policy etc. But l'll find out what Simore has to say about this.

Default Simore Platinum WORKS in my 9700

I finally got the Simore Platinum dual sim adapter, after I have tried two cheaper adapters from ebay without success. The Simore Platinum is really state of the art, it is just one piece of flexible circuit with a little bump on one end. As compared to the regular or their older adapters, there is no metal frame. The bottom line: it's as thin as you can get and it fits right into my 9700. I've been using it for about a day. Switching between two sims without a hitch. Great product, albeit pricey.

Thanks for testing it... I was thinking about getting one of those dual SIM adapters for my Bold 9700 also.

I might purchase the Simone Platinum dual SIM adapter based on your positive result.

One more point, the sim is cut to a larger size as compared to the cut size for the older adapter due to the lack of a metal frame. That is, if you have already cut your sim to try other adapters, your cut sim is going to be a bit smaller than the template for the Platinum. But, I just have to center it carefully and it works just fine. Not a big deal.
