Blackberry 9650 Bug?

Ok, so this is driving me so crazy. Please help! I just switched to Verizon and just got a brand new Blackberry 9650. I don't know if this phone is defective or if this is a normal issue with this particular Blackberry. This is hard to describe so please bear with me.
On my normal Blackbeery screen icons, I have 2 person e-mil accounts. As normal when empty if I click to open it up, it says _ _ _ _ @verizon.net as well as a blue border at the top of the screen that says "No Messages"
But, On my SMS/MMS Icon/Box when I open it sometimes everything works as normal, with SMS/MMS visible as well as the blue border that says "No Messages" Every now and then I open this icon and the Blue Border is there but the words "No Messages" are gone
I did a "Hard Reset" on this phone and it seemed to work as normal, for a few hours and then went back to as described.
Is this a Blackberry issue with this particular device and operating system, or is my phone a dud. Any help is greatly appreciated.
