I have a BB Bold 9650. I will be traveling to Germany and I want to know if I can receive text messages while there. If so, do I need to do anything to set this up?

Make sure you have a Verizon/Vodafone SIM card in the device and your account is properly provisioned for Global use.

You should definitely call Verizon support before you leave the US to verify things are set up properly on their end.

Voice calls and sms will work fine, but you'll be subject to roaming fees. International data on a BlackBerry is the tough part. If you want email, bbm, etc, that is difficult and expensive.

You can also buy a pre-paid SIM card overseas and have your Verizon number forward all calls to that new number. There's usually a fee for forwarding calls (something like 10¢ per call) but incoming calls will come to your phone uninterrupted. Just confirm that when you buy the pre-paid SIM that sms is included. The pre-paid route is almost always the most cost-efficient way to use a phone overseas.

It's neither difficult, nor expensive.
One call to Verizon to add the global data plan is all that is required. It's a few bucks more than a domestic data plan.
