Default Move / replace and Upgrade a BES 4.0 to 4.1

Please Login to Remove!

I plan to upgrade and move a BES Server on Exchange . Here is the scenario:

BES Server with 19 users v4.0.5.6 on windows 2003 SP1 called xxx8220;Axxx8221; who use a SQL Database on a xxx8220;Bxxx8221; server running windows 2003 SP1.

Server xxx8220;Axxx8221; is an old slow computer and need a new life as an boat anchor, so it will be retired.

Server xxx8220;Axxx8221; runs exchange 6.5 sp2 and will not be needed after upgrade

A new server called xxx8220;Cxxx8221; is ready to receive the new BES server 4.1 freshly downloaded. The machine is running Windows 2003 R2 SP1 and Exchange 6.5 SP2 and we will continue to use the database on the xxx8220;Bxxx8221; server

Ixxx8217;ve read over FAQ and other docs on the Tsupport web site but I donxxx8217;t find this upgrade scenario

Can you tell me witch step I need to do this ?

From what I have understand It probably sound like this :

-Upgrade the xxx8220;Axxx8221; server to the 4.1 version

-Installing BES 4.1 to the xxx8220;Cxxx8221; server

-Move user from xxx8220;Axxx8221; server to the C using the console on xxx8220;Axxx8221;

-Shutdown service on A server

-Enjoy

I know I canxxx8217;t connect TWO SRP in same time so I guess I will have to do something to ensure that

thanks

That is most likely your best scenario that you could do. You will need an additional SRP key, but if you have a t-support contract, they usually will provide one for the switch.. once you retire the old key, they will just cancel it for you.

update from RIM?

I plan on doing just about the same thing except we are running MSDE on the current BES 4.0.2 in the UK and will bring in a new box with BES 4.1 using MSDE.

I was thinking about exporting the DB, turning off box 1 and then turning on box 2 and importing the DB.

not yet. probably in few hours

I doubt you will be able to install the new version wthout supplying a SRP...
if you connect two SRP in same time , rim will drop down all connection from what I have understand.

I've done that before. I brought up a test BES in what I thought was a enclosed environment, but it connected to RIM and dropped my SRP connection to my other BES. It does not disable the SRP unless it is contant communication however... i turned the test off after a minute and my normal bes reconnected no issue.

As do the MSDE guy... seriously get SQL.

Haha that sucks that it took so long on the phone, but hey... thats job security for me ;) The more people messing up BES's out there the more chances i'll get easy work!
