Default 7250 with Alltel in Europe

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone have experience with taking a 7250 with Alltel service in the US to Europe?

My local Alltel rep says I can't but, based on some of the other posts in this forum it looks like I probably can. The only problem is none of the posts (at least that I've found) deal with Alltel specifically.

The 7250 is a CDMA device. It will not work in Europe. If you can point me to a post that details how a 7250 (or anything Alltel) works in Europe, I'd like to correct them.

CDMA is North America, Asia and Australia. Europe is GSM/GPRS only.

It is possible to use a CDMA blackberry in Asia and Australia in areas with CDMA coverage but as far as I've heard, data roaming is not possible outside your home country.

And in Australia, CDMA 1x is grossly inferior to GSM/GPRS/UMTS.

Not to mention, Alltel has no native CDMA roaming agreements according to their website. You must rent a GSM phone from a partner.

Actually, I meant that it appeared that BB's in general work in Europe. What I wasn't sure of was whether there were hardware model, OS or carrier specific issues with that. Appearently there are with the Alltel CDMA thing. So, I'm good - thanks!

Yes, BlackBerries work in Europe, but ONLY ones provided by GSM carriers. In the United States, your BlackBerry MUST be provided by T-Mobile or Cingular to work in Europe. Some of the smaller regional GSM carriers may provide int'l roaming, but they will not have extensive agreements like T-Mobile and Cingular do.
