Default How best to notify BES users of outage with BES down

Please Login to Remove!

Say there is a network problem and in an attempt to minimize damage you shut down all your servers. Domain controllers, proxy, BES, Citrix, Terminal Server, Exchange, DMS, everything.

One of the systems affected before you can shut it down is BES and the SQL server. What is the best way to be able to send a message to Blackberry users that are out of the office that their Email is down? I thought of sending a text message, but was wanting to make sure there wasn't a better way. We have about 250 BES users. Ideally we'd also like to be able to hit the other device types, like Windows Mobile and iPhones.

If you want to be able to hit all devices do SMS ... You can send PIN messages to all BB users ... and that is free too.

Didn't think about PIN messaging, how would I do a mass PIN message?

You can select the user(s), right-click, Send Message.

Most carriers allow you to email phones.

Tmobile for instance has [email address] for each line...

You can send this from an external mail service (gmail, etc.) or a functioning mail server in your organization if possible (dr site, etc.)

He wouldn't be able to do this if he's having network problems.

This would be the easiest way though...

Yeah, in this case we had to physically shut everything off. I think I'll just have to maintain a list of addresses.

In this extreme failure/outage case, I'd recommend a voicemail distribution list solution. Not sure what phone system you are on, as this is for another thread, but maintaining a list of addresses is definitely yucky.
