Default 9800 purchase without contract

Please Login to Remove!

I want to buy the 9800 with no contract for $450 from att store. Per the store rep, I need to activate an att blackberry plan to purchase this phone. Being that I never dealt with ATT to buy a blackberry, whats the best way to do this and not get stuck with a ton of fees?

I was thinking about doing it like this: use a friend's att plan to buy a new phone, activate and cancel the phone once the the 9800 is unlocked. Then cancel the new line. My main concern is an activation charge and whether I have to pay for the full month.

If you're familiar with ATT purchase process, tell me what you think!

I am not sure you will get much guidance here on anything that is going to "buck the system". I wish you good luck.

Here, I'll help.
First, call AT&T and let them know exactly what you plan on doing. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to assist you. Don't forget to give them your complete name and address, along with the phone's IMEI.

That was sarcasm. I will though tell you what I tell people at work. If you do it the right way the first time, you won't have to do it again. But as a grown man/woman, if you choose to do it in any other way but the acceptable one, be a man/woman and accept the consequences of it all.
Good Luck!

I'm trying to buy a phone and paying full price. I'm seeking purchase advice and am not attempting anything illegal. Feels like att employees are hijacking my thread. If you're not answering the question don't waste your time and move along to another thread.
