Thanks to JEEpers and other people who have provided suggestions on this thread. I have successfully installed the Simplified and Traditional Chinese fonts, and Japanese fonts, plus Stroke Chinese and Wubihua input to Torch.
Since I am not so technically familiar with Blackberry, I will make a layman's account of what I did: (all of the procedures have been described by JEEpers and others)
- installed AT&T OS v. 6.0.0.141 again (since I could not find the relvant folder mentioned by JEEpers),
- followed the instructions to copy the relevant .alx and .cod files to the respective folders
- launch the loader.exe to install the OS
- chose the fonts and inputs that I needed
Everything seems to work!
I chose to stick to the .141 version rather than .135 version because .141 is officially supported and came with the Torch. If above proceure did not work, I had planned to just install the .135
Remaining issue will be to find suitable Pinyin input for both Simplified and Traditional Chinese......
Glad that the 10 plus hours that I spent searching for solution have paid off, thanks to many of you, especially JEEpers.
Good luck to those waiting to try.....
John

Hi John,
I resolved the pinyin input already I believe according some of the other ppl who received the revised files. Pinyin and BoPoMoFo works now ... did I not email you the updated files? Someone mentioned they were in the .135 OS file. Send me another PM and I will forward it to you. Just add the additional files I included and overwrite when prompted.
I have had a few ppl ask me for the revised cod and alx files that I forgot who I did and did not send. Or you can just add my PIN to your BBM and get me there.

Dear JEEpers,
I uploaded the CJK3 files, and observed the following:
- when installing, some software modules were being down graded (is this right?)
- after installation, I could not easily switch the input language from English to Chinese (what should I do? Do you have similar problem?) So now I have to go the main menu to switch input language, instead of just pressing ALT+ENTER
Any suggestions, did I do something wrong?
Thanks.

Dear JEEpers,
One more thing, when I am using the Desktop Manager software, it indicated that there are some Blackerry Core Applications which are available for update. Should I do it? Will it affect the Asia language pack that I have installed?
Thanks,
John

Yes. Just make sure all the core modules are for OS6. If you did the 9700 hack then those core modules are based off the OS5. I added you to BBM so just send me a message later.

Do Not Upgrade to .214 if you want to keep the input functionality for CJK languages. It seems with the new keyboard options, the ability to display the quick-switch language input feature on the virtual keyboard has disappeared. (aka the Globe icon on the lower left hand side)

Getting Japanese to work on the BB 9800
JEEPers, I'm sorry to be the 1,000 person to ask, but I need to get Japanese working on my BB 9800. I saw your most recent post and I was only able to download the 9800_-_CJKS.Zip file. The top download link (9800jAsia_PBr6.0.0_rel555_PL6.4.0.99_A6.0.0.214) said the files had been removed.
Do I need to download both files, and if so, is there another place to get this file from?
Finally, can you go through the steps to put it on my BB? Reading through all the posts, I'm completely confused.
Thanks!!!

There is actually a j-version of .225 that someone uploaded which has Japanese files (input and display) by default. PM me if you need the link. I think I put the link in the Beta/OS forum too.

Downloaded and ran file, but still no Japanese
Hi JEEPers:
I downloaded the 9800jAsia_PBr6.0.0_rel615_PL6.4.0.99_A6.0.0.225 file, ran it and then updated my device, but I still don't have Japanese language support.
The BB Desktop S/W shows that my device is at S/W version 6.0.0.225.
Is there something else that I need to do?
Thanks for your help!

Japanese working
Hi JEEPers:
I did some more research and found out that I needed to run the Loader.exe. Did that, selected the Japanese language options and everything works.
Thanks for all your help!

Hi JEEPers,
I have copied the cod files to Java, and have run loader.exe, added all the language display and input options. I can display Chinese now but there still only English typing option in my device.
Thanks~~
