Smile I can't get anything to work on the simulator

Please Login to Remove!

I am using the Eclipse plugin for BlackBerry which is the simulator running in eclipse for debugging purposes. I have just figured out how to get it to debug, however one thing is consistent. I keep timing out when I try to flush the OutputStream. I have tried to use the deviceside=true which tells the simulator to connect to the internet directly, have tried using the proxy setting with MDS, however nothing works. Using the WTK from sun works fine, even with an address of localhost, but using my IP address to connect to my server from the simulator via Eclipse plugin or stand-alone simulator has been fruitless. I have spent a long time on this I don't seem to be making any progress. My steps are as follows:

Under the proxy settings with MDS
1) Open an HttpConnection w/URL
2) Set RequestProperties
3) Open DataOutputStream and write to it
4) Flush output stream (problem, it hangs)

Direct connection without MDS
1) Open an HttpConnection w/URL (problem.... it hangs)

I would greatly appreciate any advice as I have combed through most of the forum information so I believe I am doing most things right. I have even configured the MDS to make it simple and added the appropriate config parameters in the property file, but from what I have been reading on most post, using the simulator should be a slam dunk if you have internet connectivity. I am running this on an 1520 Ispiron laptop with 2g RAM. Again, using the WTK simulator works fine, it's just using the BlackBerry simulator has thus far been super frustrating as the simple things don't apprear to be working for me.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi incal,

In Blackberry each classes executed as a separate thread..

So use a new thread for your httpconnection function..

and check in your device is get activated with internet Connection..

If you make sure of those things then it will work fine on your device..

Unhappy Found the problem

Never mind, I had to go into the setup wizard for the emulator and give my appliaction "permissive access". You would think this information would be featured prominently in the PDFs for the simulator.

However, now I am getting a 400 error(HTTP_BAD_REQUEST)

Not sure why as my url looks like:
http://192.168.X.XXX:8080/MyEar/MyServlet

I also changed my MDS port to be 8980 so that is not my problem

works fine on the WTK simulator though

Do you need MDS Studio to create webservices or is MDS simulator different?

In simulator it will work fine but not in device.

How are you connecting to internet?

BES, BIS, Wap,or TCP?

Depends on that you have to provide necessary parameters with the url.

incal: one other thing to check for on your handheld device are the "APN settings", usually found in {Settings -->} Options --> Advanced Options --> TCP. You may need three pieces of information - the Gateway IP/hostname, the username, and the password. Check out:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/blac...ip-no-bes.html

The settings vary from one cell provider to the next. You also may or may not need to add a parameter to the very end of your URL:

;deviceside=true

Check the description of the javax.microedition.io.Connector in the RIM API documentation.

Cheers,

karl

Hi,
I resolve my problem by setting apn in TCP configuration.
For my provider (vodafone in Italy):
APN: push.vodafone.it
I leave Username + Password fields empty.
Thank's to all,
bye Maurizio
