What's important is whether you connect through a BES, a BIS or a WAP gateway, not over which kind of network...

Question

Is there a way to Identify that?

I am developing a blackberry application which reads an xml file from a website.

I want to know which type of internet connection is available and according to that connect to the internet .. Is it possible to do this programatically?

In the case TCP (requiring a correct WAP configuration)= ";deviceside=true"

how can we get the wap configuration (apn and gateway) programatically?

Default BIS-B actually helped

Nanika,
your suggestion to use BIS-B really helped my with the Connector.open(url) timed out issue. thanks for that.

now I'm getting the error code 411 which is HTTP_LENGTH_REQUIRED. I'm setting it with
conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Length", Integer.toString(data.length()));

but still it complains. Any help?

thanks,
G

  • MDS (to force use of an MDS on the BES) = ";deviceside=false"
  • WiFi = ";deviceside=true;ConnectionUID=S TCP-WiFi;ConnectionSetup=delayed;retrynocontext=true" or simply ";deviceside=true;interface=wifi"
  • BIS-B = ";deviceside=false;ConnectionType=mds-public"
  • TCP (requiring a correct WAP configuration)= ";deviceside=true"
I guess the configuration for "BIS-B" is the one you're looking for.

Now, I wish I could determine the right configuration programmatically instead of having the user select his/her configuration.
