I've been working on the vNES emulator for about two weeks now. I've finally got it work on my BlackBerry Pearl 8100. I added about 20 ROMS before I made it a COD. The speed is pretty decent; but you have to wait until it reaches around 20 FPS. And the only other problem was that I had to activate it...but I took care of that problem after the first day.
I like the idea of the NES for the BlackBerry & I have began development on making my own. If anyone wants to help me, please PM me ^_^

Default So how do you compile the games with the vnes.cod file?

I came accross your thread on google, decided to register. I've got the 8700c Blackberry, and I downloaded the J2ME version of VNES, version 1.2. Not sure if you're aware of it or not, but this version comes pre-packaged with instructions (readme.txt) and a batch file to compile the emulator into a JAR file (assuming you already have the Java SDK loaded somewhere already). Once it's compiled it's not hard to get onto your blackberry and get up and running.

You download the Blackberry JDE, and install that on your desktop/laptop whatever, I installed it in the default location. "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.2.0"

From their I followed the instruction for converting a jar file to a .COD file.

I placed the vnes.jar file I created into the \bin directory of the BlackBerry JDE "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.2.0\bin" and then
ran the conversion from this directory exactly as follows.

rapc import="c:\Program Files\Research in Motion\Blackberry JDE 4.2.0\lib\net_rim_api.jar" codename=vnes -midlet vnes.jar

this created the vnes.cod file which then you can load by typing the following command (assuming you've connected your blackberry via the USB cable:

javaloader -usb load vnes.jar

that's it! Now it should be loaded on your blackberry 8700c with a nice icon. I reset the screen size to 50, and remapped all the buttons, but it seems to work pretty good. You can press the little "enter" button on the blackberry to initially get it going. I tested it with metroid and it works fine. Keep in mind the Java version has no sound.

-The LT was here-
So how do you compile the games with the vnes.cod file?

All of these instructions worked to get Vnes working on my curve 8310, except for the javaloader line, I Used vnes.cod instead of vnes.jar and it worked:

javaloader -usb load vnes.cod

Also, if you rename your nes rom to "INES demo.nes", the program will play your nes game instead of the demo.

I know this thread is kinda old, but I hafta answer the question since I was curious myself.

I am playing super mario bros 3 on my 8320 right now. Mean frame rate (toward the beginning of the game) is 15.3fps (though it feels like 5). I shouldn't complain.

Installing vnes was easier than it looks. A couple downloads and sdk installs, a couple commands on the command line, and you will have nes on your blackberry. No sound, as previously mentioned. Thats ok cuz I have the sound ingrained in my head from playing this too much as a kid.
