Has anyone used the DynoPlex eFile API? Is it possible to use the filesystem without the management interface?

There is actually no real filesystem in the Blackberry, however, there are methods of storing data, but for a real-looking filesystem, you will have to write your own filesystem emulator that piggybacks on the existing methods of data storage. Writing such a filesystem emulator is a lot of work. It's a lot easier to license eFile if a filesystem is critically important to your application.

What I really want to do is preload data outside of my application (similar to the Palm DB format). I've got an app that will have loads of text and I'm afraid it will exceed the 64KB limit imposed by the BB.
I have not found any resources on how to preload the BB persistant storage yet. Does anyone have any ideas?

One way maybe to have a seperate system cod that handles all of the text (i.e. strings). I'm pretty sure that persistant storage is available to any app ( BB's have both RMS and BB specific storage formats). Just a thought...

Yep, persistent storage is available to any app.

However, it is not like a standard desktop-like filesystem format. You would need some kind of an eFile-like API to easily write a "File Manager" application;

Our eFile provides a fully functional file system for blackberry, with hierarchical folders, network access over wireless and file extension associations. The eFile API provides application access to this file system, much like you would open files on a PC or Unix. Additionally, we include uniform file Open and Save As dialogs that the developers can use in their programs.

You do not have to include eFile file manager with the eFile file system in your applications. eFile is simple an easy way to manage these files, like Windows Explorer.

eFile is free and eFile API is free. If you want to have network access, you will need to purchase our eFile Server - it will add network file browsing if installed on your network.

We've been using eFile server and client for a few months now and like it. Easy way to share data between devices, and have simple storage for attachments and transferring files to a network storage area the BB can easily download.

Hey I am really lost, in efile PDF viewer I can't change the font size or zoom so when I view PDFS they are too large and i have to constantly move left to right. Any help would be great thanks

hi, new to the bb forums but long term bb developer.

is it possible to get a trial version of the dynaplex software? eword/execl/efile are expecially appealing to me. if they perform to my satisfaction i will be able to sell this as an extra to my many customers.

I downloaded the eFile file system and it seems to work just fine within its own environment. However, I may be missing something... I received a pdf attachment via email that I wanted to view using the eFile reader, but eFile doesn't see it or any other document I receive. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to save everything into the eFile system first in order to look at it? I've read the documentation, but I'm still not getting it...

Dave, to view e-mail attachments you need to save them first through Save to eOffice. Please note that such save requires a active subscription to Wireless Document Hosting.

I just downloaded efile from dynoplex so I can view pdf files but When I try to view a pdf file on my curve I get a window saying "There is no application associated with this file type".
