Default WAP and HTML support

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

we are converting a really simple WAP/WML app to add support for HTML too (mainly for the Treo 6xx and Kyocera 7135). From what I understand, most recent BlackBerry supports both WAP/WML and HTTP/HTML, but it depends of the providers ? It's for the Montreal (Canada) area only, so the possible providers are Bell, Telus, Fido and Rogers. Anyone knows if those providers ships the HTML browser (Internet Browser) with their services ?

Also, I downloaded the BlackBerry 6500/7500 emulator, can you use the Internet Browser to test HTML sites with it ? Or what other tools are you using to validate sites with the BlackBerry browser ?

Rogers definately support html browsing... can't remember for-sure if Telus does at the moment but I seem to remember that it does.

The emulator can browse the web as long as the MDS simulator is running, I'm not sure if that's included with the stand-alone emulator but it does come along with the BB-JDE.

If you're using BB firmware 4.0, try this (on the BB or emulator):

1) Open the browser
2) Click the Trackwheel
3) Select Options
4) Select Browser Configuration
5) Look for Support HTML Tables and add a checkmark beside it.
6) Click the Trackwheel
7) Select Save Options

If this option isn't available, you're using an older version of the firmware...

either the blackberry is skewing me or I get a crappy blackberry. I did everything I can; check the setting. Still can not get it works. Here is the code
Code:
[pre]
<table width="100%" border="1">
  <caption>Table Example</caption>
  <tr bgcolor="yellow" align="right">
    <td>Row 1, Column 1</td>
    <td>Row 1, Column 2</td>
    <td colspan="2">Row 1, Column 3</td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td colspan="2" bgcolor="red">
      Row 2, Column 1</td>
    <td>Row 2, Column 2</td>
    <td>Row 2, Column 3</td>
  </tr>
</table>
[/pre]

hmmm... I'm really at a loss here... if somebody else can chime in with ideas that'd be great.

Here's the recap (as some posts are missing):
Problem: BB will not render tables properly
BB now has 4.0 firmware
BB on BES / MDS
BB loading pages from an Intranet

I've tried the same code with no problems, however my pages are on the internet so I'm using the Internet Browser (I believe Tfly's is piping through the MDS).

So any thoughts anyone?

this is what I'm doing
1. move the *.html file to my tomcat server
2. using Blackberry Browers to view; version 4.0, BB7280
3. my "html table" checkbox is check
Blackberry doesn't have that much option to play with.

Default Blackberry Browser On 7520

I Have The Blackberry 7520 And Have An Employee Blackberry Email Service With Public Ip, Based On The Web Client Not Bes. I Have Nol And Webviewr Both Work Fine. The Blackberry Browser Is Locked Out By Nextel B/c They Don't Want You Doing Html Browsing. Anyway I Found The Bb Browser Appears On The 7510 Somehow But Not The 7520. I Took The Service Book From My Old 7510 And Copied It To My 7520 And I Have The Bb Browser On My 7520 Now. Problem Is It Will Not Work, Will Not Connect To Inernet, It Did Work On The 7510. So I Suppose Nextel Needs To Unlock Some Features.

Thumbs down

this is not good. check out this document. It said that HTML TABLE will work.
page 28 - it's under Browser Configuration not General properties (don't know what they're smoking)
"BlackBerry Browser v4.0 Feature and Technical Overview"

Default Same problem

I have the same problem going through an MDS on an intranet.
Did you find any resolution to this. Everthing looks fine on the simulator I can even get the table to do everything but show spacing between the cells.

Here's an interesting thought... cause I know we all RTFM for everything, but if you look at the link, you'll notice it's all about XHTML, and not just plain old HTML. The content all looks pretty much the same, but wahola! there's a difference. If you look at the DOCTYPE specification in the header, you'll notice that unless it's very specific, you are not going to convince your BB to render it properly. I would suggest people who are still scratching their heads, look at the link in the above posts, but scroll waaaay up to the top where it says... BASICS... and have a quick read. This should enlighten a few people.

cd.

Oh ya... 1 more thing... it took me a few days to realize this as I was translating some stuff to XHTML for 1 of my clients... I figured it out the hard way, you guys get the answer the easy way.
