Question Transferring photos from an SD card to your Blackberry: can it be done?

Please Login to Remove!

I am heading out on a long hike and I wish to autopost pictures and text to a blog using email sent from my Blackberry. My Nikon digital camera has a great copying function whereby a small, web-friendly version of any picture can be created and stored on the SD card. I would like to get these pictures into my Blackberry and post those to the blog as the Nikon image is much better than a camera phone image for a blog. Is there any way to transfer an image from an SD card into a Blackberry? Something like a bluetooth-enabled (or with mini USB) card reader that works independently of a computer. Do they make such a beast?

Why don't you put a Micro SD card in an SD adapter in your Nikon and see if the BB will read it without a reformat straight from the Nikon. I have have no idea if it will but that would be the easiest solution. As long as you aren't shooting high speed continuous any micro sd should work.

I think Stinsonddog has the best answer. I have done it with my Cannon digi cam and the pictures show up fine on my BB. I'm not sure about the format of the Nikon web friendly picture. Can you just use a normal picture or does it have to be the web friendly version?

Wirelessly posted (8100™)

You can move pics from microSD to phone using files manager apps like BBfilescout...its free.

I think the bigger issue is if the Nikon format of the SD card causes the mirco sd to not be recognized by the BB, I am not sure that BBfilescout will help see it any better. It may and that would be a more clunky but useable solution.

Default Wi-Fi cards-- but no bluetooth!

Thanks for the posts-- I had considered the option of switching out cards from the Nikon to the BB, but over a 75 day span of time, that's alot of switching. I see that they make a Wi-Fi card that transmits pictures via a Wi-Fi signal-- but it has to couiple with the computer. I don't understand why this hasn't been done using bluetooth enabling. Of course, an external SD card slot on the BB would solve the problem as well (like they did in PDAs 10 years ago).
I'm still looking and open to any suggestions.
Thanks!

There was/is a product called or something like a usb bridge - it would play intermediary with two usb devices that were not intended to talk to each other.

I agree the size of those tiny cards makes swapping a real nuisance - easy to drop/lose.

Not sure how many photos the SD card in the camera you have holds but mine would not work ( Cannon ) because the BB has a limit on card size depending on OS.

OK, I think that USB bridge might be the answer! I called Delkin and they discontinued their production when the chipmaker company left them. However, I just got one off of eBay-- so we'll see if this solves the problem. BTW, when I put my NIkon formatted micro-SD card in my BB, the card became corrupted-- now NO device (including Windows Vista) can format it. As stated previously, it was a big pain to be switching out cards from the BB anyway, but there is definitely a compatability issue with Nikon.
Thanks for the info on the USB bridge!!!

Default USB Bridge worked!!

Thanks to the original poster who suggested the USB Bridge made by Delkin. It worked for exactly what I needed! They are discontinued now, but available on ebay.
Thanks again!
