Default WiFi not working.

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I got my new 8520 and when I connected to the WiFi, the wifi logo never gets white, and on manage connections it never gets the green checkmark, just a white hyphen, but it does detect the Wifi and the name appears beside the provider name.
It isn't a problem with the router because 2 other blackberries work completely fine with the wifi and the internet connection.
I checked the IP's and they're different with the other bb's and i dont know what to do.
If anyone knows how to fix it please help me.

Thanks in Advance.

Did you define the WiFi network already? IIRC you need to identify the particular network when it's protected with a WEP key. My Tour doesn't have WiFi, but there should be a Wizard for WiFi in the Network Connections app.

Is this blackberry provisioned with a Blackberry Data Plan? The only what the WiFi logo turns white is when the blackberry succesfully connects to the RIM infrastructure via WiFi, that will only happen if you have a Blackberry Data Plan.

Rambo47, what you mean with defining the Wifi network? I used the wifi setup wizard like I did with all the blackberries I've had.

hrbuckley, I do have a blackberry data plan and my brother that is in the same plan as me can use the wifi from his bb, the same bb as me.

Wirelessly posted (Scared of sea bunnies)

Also check your browser settings: Options>Advanced>Browser settings. since you have BIS, it should be set to something like Internet browser.

Since it seems you're connected (SSID appears) what happens when you try to use the BB browser?

If the device is detecting the Wi-fi networks then you need to configure Wi-fi manually. Following are the steps that I got from Blackberry FAQs:

1. At the Home screen, press the Menu key.

2. Scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi Network and press the trackball.

3. Scroll to Next and press the trackball.

4. Scroll to Manually Add Network and press the trackball.

5. Type the network name, and then select Add.

6. At Security Type, press the trackball.

7. Scroll to one of the following options and press the trackball: (By the way dude, ask your network administrator that what type of security have they deployed for the Wi-fi network, and then select one of the following)

* No Security
* WEP
* Pre-Shared Key (PSK)
* PEAP
* LEAP
* EAP-TLS
* EAP-FAST
* EAP-TTLS
* EAP-SIM

8. Scroll to Connect and press the trackball.

9. At the Save this Wi-Fi Network as a Profile anyway? field, ensure Yes is selected.

Hope this will resolve the issue. Wish you all the best dude !

See shahzadk007's post above. That's what I was talking about.

If none of that works, have a look at the Wi-Fi diagnostics. Manage Connections -> Wi-Fi Options, Menu -> Wi-Fi Tools -> Wi-Fi Diagnostics.

Look in the Wi-Fi and BlackBerry Infrastructure sections.

I can use the browser even with the mobile network off, but the WiFi logo never gets bright white. But blackberry Messenger doesnt work with the mobile network off.

I compared my blackberry to my brother's and while his bb has a green checkmark on BlackBerry Infrastructure in Conencting, Authenticating router and Authenticating server, I have a red cross on Connecting and the other two have a white slash.

Two things to try:

1. Restart the router. Pull the plug for a full 2 minutes and then let it restart and go through it's diagnostic routine before trying to connect your BB.

2. Update the OS on your BlackBerry. Even if its just reloading the OS you have, consider wiping with JL_Commander and reloading. Be sure to do a backup first!

Rambo, I think he needs to ask the administrator to add his MAC manually in the Access Point. That might solve his problem.
FYI :
You can see your MAC from Options -> Status and note the Hex number number separated by colons.

If he's using MAC filtering, definitely. That would be the key right there. @OP: are you using MAC filtering on your wireless network?

WEP-protected? Have you entered your WEP key into the BB?

Hmm. Let me get this straight. You're connected to your wireless router, cannot surf using the HotSpot Browser (BlackBerry Browser/Browser doesn't use Wireless right?), and you've tried everything that shahzadk007 & others suggested.

1. Is your router SSID hidden?
2. Do you have UMA on your providers account to use BBM over WiFi?
(These 2 above pretty much should be ruled out by others' advice)
3. Check in Options> Advanced Options> Service Books (for the following):
WiFi TCP/IP Browser [BrowserConfig]
WiFi TCP/IP Transport [WPTCP]
^ you'll need these two service books for the HotSpot Browser to work.

Fasih brother, you haven't mentioned whether your device is picking the router or not?
