Please can anyone help me with this? It's been driving me nuts for 4 days now.

I've downloaded the OS to my C: drive.
I've deleted vendor.xml

I've followed the instructions in the thread "How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ" to the letter

The BB screen shows a 507 error.

The loader connects to the device just fine (the BB screen shows a computer connection instead of the usual 507), but I get no prompt to load the OS, and if I click 'Add' it asks me for *.alx or *.ali files, and does not find any with those extensions. I've done a search on my PC and don't appear to have any such-named files at all.

I'm really sick of this now, and it's only sheer stubbornness which has stopped me from throwing the BB through the window.

Please can someone tell me what's wrong, or what I'm doing wrong? I am a total newbie to BB and half the jargon is gobbledegook to me :(

The instructions on how to load the OS are clear, and each step must be followed.

- download the OS - and make sure it it is the OS for the 8707 and not any other model
- install (execute) the file you just downloaded to your PC - I believe you missed this crucial step
- Delete vendor.xml
- restart Desktop Manager

It will load now.

Sorry, I have done all of that (so many times I have lost count), and it still doesn't do anything :(

Click on Help / About Desktop Manager / Device Software
What shows up?

Also, what is the exact name of the file that you downloaded?

In 'About' it says v2.7.0.86 for the RIM 950, RIM 957, RIM 850, and RIM 857 Wireless Handhelds.

The filename was Blackberry_Handheld_Software_v2.7a.exe

Well, you have the OS for very old, obsolete BlackBerrys that haven't been made in years. Not sure who gave it to you, but you need to download the Handheld OS for specifically for the 8707 model.

The location to download the 8707 OS is found in a sticky thread at the top of the 8700 Forum -> http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...k-chinese.html

This is the latest version of the 8707 code.

Try going to their BB downloads page and see which OS version they have, it may not be the latest but it should get you up and running.

I'm with T-Mobile. I've been to their website and it appears that the link is broken. I've managed to download the Vodafone file now, so I'm giving it a try now, will let you know if it works.
