Most BB are only able to send 160 characters per sms, if I'm not mistaken.

hi zerog46

Quote:
Send and receive SMS messages in datagram packets using UDP. SMS datagram packets, which include
the BlackBerry header information, have a fixed size of 160 bytes.
i got this line from bb document . i too think we cant send sms above 160 bytes udp have this limit if we use Messageconnection against datagram connection is it possiable to send?

BlackBerry has a limit of 160 characters, which I believe is part of the SMS specification. The first "S" in SMS is for Short.

I do not believe you can extend that limit.

if i compose a message with my 8700 the initial display says 1/6, after typing 160 characters it changes to 2/6 which indicates that there is a second message used.

i wonder why (and how) you want to use UDP.
sending sms on a BB uses DatagramConnection (sms://) which has 160 byte as a maximum length.
you can send an oversize sms using the standard device interface and check if they are formatted in a certain way to sort them.

just to correct my post above: it's 160 characters in 7byte encoding, not 160 bytes.
It's 1.120 Bit or 140 Bytes.
see wikipedia
