Problems with synchronising Exchange mailbox

Hi
We have been having some issues synchronising the exchange mailbox. The device was synchronising before but has since suddenly stopped.
We tried to delete the link between the user and the phone, recreated the account but it did not sort the problem. We are able to successfully browse the folders when looking at it from the account settings perspective (when selecting folders to sync) but the emails do not flow through.
Has this happened to someone here? I am very new to blackberry so I am hoping that someone can provide me some steps to troubleshoot further
