Default 8703e browser and firmware question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

my buddy actually picked up an 8703e for his service here in tucson az with cricket, a local based cdma service, and he's having a problem with his browser. Actually he's missing the icon on his icon list, and when i go to the advanced options for the browser, there are no options to change... he got this phone from a guy that said its unlocked and possibly hacked, so i assume he messed it up somehow. How do I fix this? do I need to do a firmware upgrade? he's on 4.1 right now.

Secondly, if I do upgrade the firmware, how do I backup all his contacts on my desktop so he doesnt have to enter them in again. (if the firmware does erase his contacts, which i assume it does)

I have a decent experience in flashing phones, firmware updates, etc.

Thanks!!!

Does your friend gave a blackberry data plan? No data plan = no browser.

im not sure actually, if he doesnt have one will it actually not show up on the phone because of it? or will it be available on the phone but he can't access it? i find it strange that there is no option available in the advanced options menu...

When he gets a plan service books will be sent to his device and he will receive a browser icon and email settings icon.

Edit. Not sure why the browser is not showing in advanced options, I cannot remember if mine was the same until I got my plan but I had no browser icon until I got that.
