I was wondering if there is a way to apply an anti-spam program to the mail that goes through my BIS.. I have my own web hosting and their spam filter is not picking up nearly enough spam messages and I am getting about 50 a day that are slipping through and finding their way onto my blackberry...

They say they are unable to change settings for the program (SpamAssassin) and my email client on my Mac (Apple's Mail) seems to pick up on the spam and move them to the junk mail folder rather easily.

Is there a way that I can set up some filter or get a spam program to help out on the Blackberry side of things, because that is where it gets really annoying..

What exactly would I put for it to filter? Since it is Spam it is not coming from one address.. it is coming from a bunch.. would you just put the generic "spam" terms like certain medications?

Is there a commercial program or solution for this as well (just out of curiosity)?

You can add each email address you are getting it from (a waste of time for the most part) or add keywords like you suggested (best option)

Not that easy to do. You can also join an ISP like AOL who has powerful spam filters that prevent mail from even getting to your mailbox and get forwarded to your Blackberry.

Many do not like AOL but their spam software has always been tops for me.

What's not easy to do? Filters???? Piece of cake.... Takes a bit of updating to get it right but once it's locked in you are good to go....

the problem is I host my email/website through Verio.. they use their Spam software and have been rather unhelpful.. they said I can tweak the settings but it is not supported and takes heavy coding... this is something that I may consider switching hosting companies due to... does anyone know of any good ones with reliable hosing packages and strong spam filters?

It's definitely best to have some effective upstream spam filtering. You can use the BIS filters but it's mostly an exercise in futility and frustration especially if you have multiple accounts integrated with BIS (since each account has its own filters).

MXlogic's spam filtering works extremely well -- it's what my BES provider MailStreet uses. There are plenty of other good options out there as well.

do you or anyone else by chance know of alternate solutions to MXlogic? They seem a little business oriented/expensive for my personal email... Granted, it is my primary email, but it is an additional $50 a month.. Or is there an ISP that does web hosting and email that includes them as part of the monthly fee that anyone can recommend?

You can pass on the AOL issue if you want. NOTHING works better for killing spam. Send too many of the same messages over to AOL and they investigate and kill it quickly, likely before it even get in your inbox.

Oh, and I have tried the others with filters galore. These people change email address like breathing, no amount of filtering will stops todays spamers.

How do you "lock in and your good to go"?
