There's got to be a way, because it's killing me.

For texts/e-mails? It's just drawing out a "#" sign...

You can also hold the caps key while you type. Every letter will be capitolized until you release the CAPS key.

Pressing <shift> and then <alt> puts the phone into NUM lock mode, not CAPS lock. I've looked around for a CAPS lock shortcut, but can't find one either. It sure would be handy. d_fisher's tip works (thanks!), but it's kind of tough to do if you want to type for an extended period in CAPS.

If you keep pressing ALT, it will cyle from NUM to CAPS. But it won't stay on CAPS after you press a key.

As best I can tell, on the 8100 there is no such thing as "caps lock". You can get it one letter at a time. Other than holding each key for a second or so when in suretype (which capitalizes the letter) I don't know of any way to lock CAPS in to type a heading or such.

I don't know about the original poster, but it is useful for typing acronyms (like NASA, IBM, FBI, etc.).

On the other hand there is a nifty little feature in the auto text function that can be used to handle acronyms. Have you ever noticed when you are typing that you don't need to capitalize the word "I". If you type a lowercase "i" then it will automatically change to uppercase as soon as you hit the space bar. This is because there is an "i"->"I" (Specified Case) entry in the autotext.

If you type an acronym a lot then add an autotext entry for it with the "(Specified Case)" option and then you don't even have to shift to type it in the future. I imagine this won't work very well for acronyms that are actually English words, though...

BTW, there are some interesting side effects to their helpful autotext facility. For example, it's hard to type a text message and talk about your "id" - the BB will helpfully change it to "I'd". You also can't say "Mike lets me ride his bike" as it helpfully changes it to "Mike let's me ride his bike" which is wrong. I haven't gotten around to it with my BB, but I usually change things like the "lets" mapping to "letus"->"let's" or some other non-English-word mapping. YMMV

hit backspace once or twice. depending if you've hit the space bar or not. it auto fixes to "id". this only works if you have not already type the words after it. watch what you type.

same as above. backspace once or twice depending.

you just have to watch what you type. suretype is intuitive, not stupid.

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware that you could undo the autotext like this.

I've responded to the general issue of whether or not the autotext mechanism needs "fixing" in another thread where it is more germaine. Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion of CAPS locking...
