Question Blackberries in Europe

Please Login to Remove!

I am likely going on a brief business trip to Holland. Will a US based Blackberry (Verizon) work there for either phone or email / web access?

I am assuming there will be surcharges (if it works at all) anyone have an idea as to what they will be?

I haven't actually gotten one yet, but if it will work, I am thinking that getting one would be a lot easier than bringing my laptop as I have no idea if internet cafes are comon there.

Thanks in advance for your input.

The 8830 is certainly internationally capable and would work over there. That may be the only one in the Verizon line-up, unless the Storm is also. Others can chime in on that.

The 8830 will work fine; I have used mine in Holland.

Internet cafes are more common than tulips.

I doubt if the the 7100 will work as it is CDMA and there are few if any CDMA networks in Europe. AN 8830 or 9530 should work.

I am not very BB savvy ...

Do you have to do anything special? Get a special plan? Does it cost extra to call the US from there?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty clueless.

The 7100g, 7100t, 7100v, 7105t, 7130c, and 7130g are all GSM devices that work in Europe, but not on Verizon CDMA. The 7130e is a CDMA device that works on Verizon CDMA, but not in Europe.

The 8830 and 9530 both work on Verizon CDMA and European GSM networks. The 9530 also happens to work on North American GSM networks.

Yes, you will need to add a BlackBerry data plan. Verizon normally activates this for you automatically. Additionally, you will need to have the SIM card for your device provisioned and international roaming activated on your account.

Calling and using the data features on your phone in Europe will cost you a significant amount of money extra.
