My girlfriend is going to venice and paris for a week or two and I was wondering if I get her Curve 8330 unlocked...can she use it, how, use bbmessenger, and would there be any extra charges?

Depends on who your carrier is, I know some leave their phones unlocked straight out of the box

It's a verizon phone, so I don't think you can really unlock it. They use CDMA, whereas most of Europe is on GSM. I think she'll still be able to use her BB and its all features while she's abroad, but I'm not sure how the charges will come out.

Yes. However, if you want BB data services you'd need to find a local SIM with BB data or else there's no point in unlocking it for this purpose. Voice will still work just fine though.

No -- check the 8330's specs. Nothing to unlock. It's CDMA. And it won't work in Europe. Again, it's CDMA (and not a World Edition BB nor CDMA and GSM like the 9530). IIRC VZW has a program for renting world phones if you're traveling overseas. I'm sure there are other options as well.

That's right. I forgot her curve on verizon is not a world phone. Alright well...hopefully ill work something else.
