Also, you both need to have a BlackBerry data plan in order for BBM to work.

Are you still using the same SIM card as the guy you purchased the phone from? If not, then you most likely don't have a BlackBerry data plan.

No, it didnt have a sim card, im using my own. But i can talk to his friends on the messenger anyway.
And its not a pointless discussion, i didnt know why it wouldnt work, i googled it and it didnt help, so i was just asking.

The data plan isn't tied to the device, but your SIM. You would have to have called your carrier (O2) and asked them to provision your account for a BlackBerry data plan.
