Default Which Puck to Use for Verizon 8830 in Europe?

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8830 on Verizon, and am heading to Europe in a few months. I'm looking to get GPS mapping for driving as cheaply as possible (as long as reasonably reliable). What is the best puck/program to get, and are there any pitfalls I should be aware of? There are a bunch of pucks listed on the boards, but I'm not sure what the best one for my device might be? Thanks much.

The first question I would have is whether you can get the necessary DATA plan to allow any gps to get the maps or other information to show a route. And how reasonable ($$$) would the data plan over there be?

I _JUST_ (ups delivered it about 1/2 hour ago) got the Freedom Keychain gps2000.

I was in Europe this summer and the Peugeot we rented came with a gps. Frankly, I am not sure that I could have wanted a screen size like the BB to help me navigate but it probably could work.

I have used Google Maps in Europe and it worked great. The data plan will work fine over there as the partner/roaming network will likely be Vodafone. There is no reason that the 8830 with a bluetooth puck won't work over there.

I have the KeychainGPS 2000 and it works great.

Thanks for the advice so far. I got a Holux 240 (it was cheaper than the keychain), and it seems to work just fine on bbmaps and google maps (I'll be getting an int'l data plan).

My next question is what program to use for turn-by-turn voice directions in Europe? Telenav and Mapquest seem to only have it for the U.S., at least on the US site.

TeleNav does have an app for Europe....might have to do a little more research.

Try Nav4all (nav4all.com), it works very well over here and is available for free. Also, its data usage is extremely low, so there is no danger of your bill exploding.

I've downloaded AmazeGPS, and it seems to work just fine here in the states. The only problem is I store my car in an underground garage, so I have to start it up while driving. Will be upgrading to the Int'l data plan/SIM card in a few weeks. Fingers crossed that it works abroad.
