Occasionally all posts don't display
Please Login to Remove!
Ok, I have one that I haven't been able to figure out.
On my desktop computer (WinXPPro SP2, IE6, 2GB RAM, AMD Dual Core 3400+) if I have my forum settings set to display 100 posts per thread I don't always get all the posts. It'll display maybe 80 and on the last one it will just show the header bar of the 81st post with no way to display the rest. If I set it to display 40 posts it works fine. I'm sure this is a computer issue and not a forum issue but does anyone know what I can do to fix it? I've tried deleting the cookies and it seems to help for a bit then it happens again. It doesn't occur on any other computer I use.

Wirelessly posted (BB 9930: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry9930/4.2.3 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
I know its user error. I've tried all that (except the battery pull of course). It did it with the old forum software too. Its odd and I haven't been able to figure it out.

I’ve had the same problem with show 100 post per page, all posts wouldn’t display. It would happen to me in the Custom-made Themes Corner - OS 4.1 thread and drive me nuts. I switched to show 40 post per page and all is well.

JC, you know your 'Read the Rules' link now goes to the 100,000th User contest post? I was looking for the rules the other day and could not find...
What was the problem you were having, again? Oh yea, truncated post list... well, can you change your post per page to like 79? That'll work.

Can we please act a little more serious in the site suggestions/problems section. It seems that every time I go to read an issue, I have to go through random posts that have nothing to do with anything.
John,
Odds are, it is forum related rather then computer related. To me it seems like your timing out your query. Because of this not all posts get displayed, and only the amount of posts the query allows. Try setting it to another figure, like 60 posts or something along those lines?

Yes sir. Reprimand noted and heeded. Please accept my apology for my part in the frivolity.
(side note: Are the Rules still lost?)

It works fine when I set it to 40 (the only other option besides 100.) It's only on the one computer. I've not seen it anywhere else. I take my Dell laptop everywhere and never have the problem.

John, then it must be 100% that particular computer, check to see how much available memory you have to applications, it may be that you just dont have enough temporary room to fit all 100 posts.
The appologies aren't necassary, I don't mind the random fun, its just not that much fun to sift through it.

Hey, I just finally figured this issue out. It was in my Symantec firewall.
Quote:
Note: All Web Content filtering is performed on ports that are specified in the HTTP Port List on the Firewall tab in the Symantec Client Firewall Options window. If this list is blank, the firewall does not enforce Web Content settings. Furthermore, Web Content settings are ignored for computers placed in Trusted Zones
|
I guess it saw something it didn't like in the script and stopped loading posts after about 60 posts. I removed all ports from the list to not enforce web content settings and I get all my posts now!
