Default 8520 - CALL FAIL - really, really grateful for any advice

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I am really sorry to be a pest but I'd really appreciate any advice on my Blackberry 8520.

I've had it a few months and it has been absolutely fine, but tonight it has begun playing up. I was in a room in my house that can be a bit iffy for signal, so I thought nothing of getting the SOS sign. However, I am now in my room (which always gets signal - my house is a good signal receiver in general) and it just isn't working at all. I can't make calls (I made one earlier after about 10 goes and got cut off) and it either says 'SOS' or 'call failed'. Further, it says 'GSM' by the signal number (at present I have 3-4 out of 5) and I don't know what it means but the arrow in the top right hand corner keeps appearing and disappearing! I often have 'EDGE' or 'GPRS' (I think!) as well but I'm not sure what is normal for the house as I've never actually noticed.

I can't use the internet at present (it says I'm not in an area to handle data communication) but I had a fiddle with the 'manage connections' and then couldn't remember the WAP code for our internet, so that may be something to do with that! Not very bright I know!

I am on Orange network, and have tried my brother's sim card in this mobile but it won't work either.

I have also tried switching it on and off (countless times), taking the whole thing apart (battery and SIM), and swapping the connections from preferred WI-FI to simply Orange (although I've now swapped it back as that has made no difference).

I'm in the middle of my finals for uni and it's really bothering me so I would really, really appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Thank you so much,

Lucy

Sorry - just to add that it's now gone on to GPRS.

Thank you.

Sounds like a minor cell tower problem.
