8130 poor battery life?
Please Login to Remove!
Is anyone else experiencing poor battery life with their new 8130? I swear this thing runs down WAY faster than my 8830.
I know we all use our new toys more when it's new, but I barely used the phone today and the battery didn't last all day. The radio turned itself off this evening.
Feedback appreciated!!!

yes, my battery has gone done quickly and does not come close to reaching the published estimates. however, i have noticed it more when i added my yahoo account. my other isp account, presumably because its not being pushed every minute, or however the yahoo is done, its constantly polling to see if there is email. but overall, i would say battery life is not that great.

I looked up the specs and the it is quoted as being the same as the 8830. It is not lasting anywhere near my 8830, that's for sure!!

Mine easily lasts a full day. For example, today I only made a few calls, and went on the internet for around 10-15 minutes.
Checked and responsed to numerous e-mails throughout the day.
Battery level, at 7pm (fully charged this morning) is 70%.
With HEAVY usage, it's never lower then 20% by 10 or 11pm, if I've had a long day and used it extensively.
I've even gone to amusement parks with my family, where I'm constantly calling my wife when we separate, listen to music much of the time, and still return home with at least 15-20% battery life remaining.
You may need a new battery.

I am on BES (not a business account) and have the battery which came with the blackberry, not one of the after market extended life batteries.

Just noticed your OP was about an 8130
My bad... I have the 8100!
You could check if seidio online might have a longer life battery for the 8130.
Wish I had a '30! Lucky you!

The battery that came with mine is a C-M2. Is that the same in the 8100?

I always find with a new phone the battery life seems to suck, its mostly do to the fact i am messing with it so much because its new.
But i do look forward to the extended battery....?????

Compared the battery to that of my 8830 and it is A LOT thinner. Wonder if that accounts for any of the reduced capacity...

I am having the same battery problem. I NEVER ran out on my 8703, not even close. Now I do a half hour of talk and a few emails and my 8130 is done.
Is this an isolated problem? If so, maybe we can get VW to give us new batteries?

I just purchased an OEM battery off of ebay. I'll let you know how it works when I get it.

A few phone calls and some light e-mailing. Checked the weather with the browser. I'm at 50% at the end of the day. Bluetooth is off.
Wouldn't leave for an overnight without the charger, that's for sure.

After a full nights charge, I get about 2 solid days worth (down to 15% or so) with light to moderate use. I get about a half dozen phone calls a day, check my e-mail, check my fantasy teams stats online, use BB Messenger, send about half a dozen SMS text messages a day...and I'm still averaging about 2 full days.
Charged to 5pm on Monday...put it back on the charger at 5pm on Wednesday. I do lock the keyboard and thus shut off the display when its not in active use...this may help me squeeze more life out of it?
The battery does seem smaller than my 8830s batt though...

I am definately NOT going to let this our my first BB experience - after all I waited 6 months for this phone from Verizon. But I am astonished at how quickly the battery went down yesterday.
Doesn't count over the weekend since they weren't work days. But yesterday (just got the phone on Friday night) I did about 50 emails and maybe 45 minutes on the phone and it needed to be charged by about 3pm.
I am on corporate BES with no pop or other emails. BT all the time with my headset. No roaming or anything like that.
Otherwise I am thrilled with it - so much better than WM5.

The battery in the VZW 8130 is the CM2, just like the GSM Pearl 8100 uses... 900mah.
Keep in mind that GSM is said to use LESS power than CDMA....
I will say that I do find my VZW 8130 doing better when I stuck the already conditioned battery from my T-Mo 8100 in it...
With the stock verizon 8130 and its included CM2 battery, I have managed nearly 4hrs talk from full charge to low battery indicator.... BUT there wasn't much stand by time that day...
One other thing I noticed.. Like all Verizon and Sprint phones, if the Blackberry is on the edge of 1X and EV signals, so its constantly switching between 1X and 1XEV, that will contribute to the battery draining "abnormally" fast.

My 8130 is set with Bluetooth on, and I have my Yahoo and Gmail accounts set up on it. Over the weekend when I was home, letting the phone charge overnight, by the time I was going to bed, my battery was at around 40-50% (that is with roughly 1 hour on the phone, and spurious emails during the day). First day at work yesterday with the new phone, by the time I left the office around 7pm, the battery was already at 40%. By the time I went to bed last night, battery was down to 20%. The big difference (usage was about the same) is that at work, when I am inside the building, the phone constantly switches from EVDO and 1X.
Basically, the battery lasts me the entire day, which is fine with me. If I need to, I do have a charger at my desk that I can plug it into. This is the same performance I had with my old phone, the LG VX9800.

Took the phone off charge yesterday morning around 9. Had by bluetooth on all day, was on the phone an hour tops, did a hand full of texts, a few personal emails (all BIS), and the phone was dead by 7pm. Not impressive at all. I'm generally on the phone at least 3 - 4 hours per day so this isn't going to cut it....

Coming from a Motorola Q, I am pleasantly surprised with the battery life on my 8130. I used it yesterday for about 2 hours as a Bluetooth modem, received email all day, made a few phone calls, surfed the internet, etc... and I was at 50% at 11 PM. That seems pretty good to me.

Note, too, that the 8830's battery is rated at 1400 mAhr, while the 8130 is only 900 mAhr. That is probably why the 8830 lasted so much longer. However, it does sound like the battery you have is underperforming.
