Default Problems Upgrading Pearl 8100

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

Having purchased a new laptop and loading on the latest Device Manager (v7.0.32) I attempted to upgrade my Pearl. The software indicated V4.5 (the phone is currently running V4.2.1.101 on Platform 2.3.0.80) and proceeded to start the process. The back up went smoothly and then it attemped to connect to boot ROM.

There seemed to be multiple attempts with the USB sounds for reconnection happening a number of times before I got the message - a fatal error has occurred!

I also tried the manual upgrade and the same thing happened and then I had this message....

Unspecified error encountered [A:0x00000001]

Any ideas??

Start here:

How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ

And here if it fails:

What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

Be patient as it may take many tries. It's all about catching it at the right time during the boot process.

Good Luck and be patient!

This is very silmilar to a problem I had just this morning.

I was trying to update my Pearl 8110 but Desktop Manager kept saying the Phones OS was a newer version than the one I was trying to install....which was rubbish. After reinstalling both DM and the OS file several times to get this to work I decided to try the JL Cmder program and sure enough it kept going back to the main screen after i typed "blackberry" on the wipe menu.

Eventually I got the new OS to install by using the alternate procedure:

What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

Follow the instructions carefully and it should work...Also make sure the battery is in the phone lol.

UPDATE
After updating the OS on my phone, Desktop Manager was still saying there was no OS file installed. I decided to uninstall DM 4.7 and try 4.6 and guess what? everything is working now. Dodgy 4.7 is

If you can, try and download Desktop Manager 4.5 or 4.6.

Uninstall Version 4.7 and then install which ever version you got and then try again.

Might help

When using the JL_Cmder program, instead of choosing option 4 to wipe out, always try option 2 first. This serves 2 purposes:

1) see if the JL_Cmder program can CONNECT to your BB, this is very important; in order to wipe, the program needs to be able to connect to the BB 1st

2) this would generate a log file after connecting successfully, you could go through the log file and see what exactly went wrong, at least you will have some idea what exactly might be causing the problem

Yeah, I agree, it takes a lot of patience........also if you protected your BB with a password, you need to first enter the password before selecting any menu options

good luck!

This is crazy now as I have no phone!

Any more advice?

Is it just me...... or did anyone catch the OP is at 4.2 currently. JL_Cmdr doesn't work pre 4.3 does it?

This is perfect! Your BB is ready for the OS! Now just be sure you have downloaded and INSTALLED the OS on your PC. Delete the Vendor.xml file, launch Desktop Manager and hit the application loader. Be patient it can take up to 1.25 hours with multiple reboots!

Good Luck!

Doing this and still getting fatal error has occurred!

So far....

Downloaded DTM V4.7 ....fatal error
Uninstalled DTM V4.7 and downloaded V4.6 .....fatal error
Tried the manual update. got an error....
Used the Command Prompt method - same
downloaded different OS - still the same!
tried it with battery and without battery ....same!

Even tried different USB ports!!!

Always seems to fall when it tries to connect to boot ROM - I can hear the USB connecting and reconnecting multiple times before it crashes with fatal error notice!

Thanks for all the suggestions though!

Well, I use Vista and it works ok for me if I use DM 4.6 or below, 4.7 was just a pain in the ass.

But I use vista with Access control turned off so maybe that effects things when it is turned on for you?

Default Unable to Complete Loading Operation

Hi,

I worked through the list of ideas on this topic to get my pearl 8130 up and running after attmepting to update to v4.5 and having the 507 error come up. I used both methods at the beginning of this thread and nothing has worked for me.

The most recent item that my computer is telling me is this: "Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation." When I try the install of OS v4.5 Any ideas? I am not the best on either computer or the phone so keep it as simple as you can with the directions.

Thanks

Steed
